Official Gramps' Memorial Eternal OT Thread

Andre Agassi was the stud when I first started playing. I had the shoes, too.

Kiddiedoc in his youth.

Roscoe Tanner was my fav. Borg was a monster though. With McEnroe and Conners, those were the golden era IMHO.
As much I loved some of the older guys like Lendl, Agassi, Becker, Edberg, Sampras, etc the 3 best of all time are Nadal, Federer and Djokovic.

Off clay, Sampras was absolutely top-3 all time.
How long was Sampras on top compared to Nadal, Federer and Djokovic?

It seems like it's been a very long time since an American player was on top. How long has it been since an American male player won a major? Roddick?

lol "older guys" are folks like Arthur Ashe, Ken Rosewall, and Rod Laver... Leave it to the VNPF to hijack a 'rona thread and crash it into a tennis debate.

Ivan Lendl is 62. Plus him Becker and Edberg were in their prime when I was a kid. I think McEnroe was past his prime at that point. I think Connors was too.

TBH I don't even remember watching Lendl (you are correct he is 62 which is kind of surprising, McEnroe is 63). I lost interest in watching tennis a long time ago.

I haven't watched it much either. I think when you get older sometimes you have to limit your interests and hobbies. Plus those 5 set tennis matches for men can take a really long time.

I honestly prefer watching the women's tennis matches sometimes. As they can be very competitive plus they go 3 sets max where men's matches go 5 sets max.

He won 64 singles titles in total. He first reached the world No. 1 ranking in 1993, and held that position for a total of 286 weeks (third all time), including an Open Era record of six consecutive Year-End No. 1 rankings from 1993 to 1998.

^^^ i will be the happiest dude in the raggedy state of NC if that happens. I still say 8-4.

Which will have us right on track to national relevance again. Coach Hype was a homerun hire...as long as we have a good defensive coordinator to at least slow down the other team. Hope Banks stays a good while, his track record is more than solid.

GO VOLS!!! 6 MORE DAYS BOYS!!!!!!

I agree with 8-4. But I really think we catch one team we "shouldnt". Maybe like an LSU who at the end of the year has a better record than us.

I made the 9th Grade Tennis Team at TBSFB using my Mom's Chris Everritt woodie. One match to make the 12th man over this rich ****er and his high dollar Yonex. He was pissed..lol.
Upon making the team..Mom bought be the golden aluminum cheapie Wilson..but hey at least it wasn't wooden and have Chrissie all on it. lol

We had clay courts back then..I never liked clay..

I think 9-3 is very doable..Still think we win one we shouldn't but lose one. LSU is a pick em IMO. They have never had our number since they sold their soul in 2001.
I do have to say LSU is about the only SEC school that I have no disdain for. Seems pretty mutual respect.

Gotta say at least they are fun to watch again.

And lock DW up.

Was it still military when you attended? I knew a set of brothers, one went to ND because he could not handle the discipline but his brother went to TBSFB.

No a few years after..I dont remember the change and honestly did not not even think about it at this point in my life,
TBSFB post military was really rather redneck honestly,,We had chewing and dipping areas...no ****. There were some good athletes and as a young un the seniors seemed like men.
We wore big fat ties..courteroys..those moccasins, ball caps. It was like a Redneck Riveria honestly..but the real preppies started coming in as they got away from the military age.

Sorry man just talking about this brings back so many memories..

Best thing ever was this

In 1976 the nationally acclaimed Walkabout outdoor program began the tradition of taking seniors on a two-week climbing, rafting, and backpacking trip in lieu of final exams. Known as the Senior Trip, it has since become the cornerstone of the Walkabout program. Seniors spend the last six days of their Baylor careers on a wilderness adventure that includes a service component with the National Forest Service.

I mean zip lines and free falls..we rafted the Nantahala for a primer and then the Chatooga for 3 additional days in flood conditions and wetsuits as it rained hard all week and really freaking cold. And we even rock climbed up near Cherokee IIRC..not vertical stuff but smooth rock with tiny little pebble footholds.

Seriously it was the best thing a HS could do..dont be scared as you approach life..
Led me to repelling and rock climbing and rafting Ocoee untold times. And one of my best friends was guide in my 20's and took our drunken high asses down the Occoe with a Death yak for the adventurous But alas,,that rafting just seemed Childs play . That last rapid is a doozy though that got your attention. BTW..my buddy guide called us the worst crew he ever had,,lol

Of course now I get nervous Nelly on a ladder. lol

My Dad was the FS Ranger for the Ocoee District when I was really young. We lived really close to the dam (red circle).

9-3 is probably very doable for the first half - assuming the offense is on par with last year and the defense isn't what turned up in the bowl game. It's going to be the 3rd and 4th quarters that are problematic; the trick is not to wear out your own defense quicker than the other guy's defense.

It was better last year than watching JG for sure; but when you ask people with a lot of TN football history what was their favorite game, you will likely get the 1986 Sugar Bowl, and that happened because TN spent the night in the Miami backfield.
