Official Gramps' Memorial Eternal OT Thread

Lost a lot of faith in CJH in this game, and i am dead sober and dead serious. He got a 22-3 lead and IMMEDIATELY went into "play not to lose" mode with ridiculous playcalling on offense AND defense. Run off tackle 90% of snaps on offense, 4 man rush on defense. The EXACT OPPOSITE of how we built the lead, and have played all year.

We will never beat Bama OR Georgia playing this way. Hope we dont lose at Arkansas next game. They can score points in bunches.
Think it had more to do with a patchwork oline than wanting to be conservative. Probably didn't want to embarrass his alma mater as well

Welp...the bullsheet begins. Completely madeup holding call negates a 50 yard gain down to the OK 9 yardline. Garbage refs. Oklahoma has only been called for 1 penalty in this entire game...had a 15yard personal foul flag unceremoniously picked up after the ref threw it on OK...zero holding calls on them against the best defensive line in the nation....but they make some billsheet holding call on a huge backbreaking run down to their 9 yardline. Desperate to keep us from going up 26-3 because they know that's game over. We have to tackle well against this running QB

We had two calls for basically hitting the OK QBs facemask. The one where Nico's facemask was hit and reoriented his head went uncalled. Probably none were really worthy of a penalty flag. This team does collect too many penalties though - whether real or imaginary.

Oklahoma played 60 minutes against the best defensive line in the nation without a single holding penalty. None. Also completely shut down our veteran WR corps on all but 1 pass to Bru for the 60 yard TD....without ever getting a pass interference or defensive holding call against them. The fix was in folks, we just managed to beat them and the refs this time on the road. That is very, very hard to do... and should be commended. Ok only had 1 flag in the entire 1st half, and it was on a nonsense play that didnt affect anything. We had that huge gain down to their 9yd line taken away...stopped them on 4th down and had a BS call giving them an automatic 1st down at the 2yd line (resulting in a TD on 4th down) we got robbed repeatedly.

This team and staff deserves a huge amount of praise for beating a top15 SEC team and a couple dirty refs on the road. Take away those 2 crap calls mentioned above alone...and we win this game by either 20 points or 24 points instead of 10. This is the best defense since at least 2001....may end up being 1 of the very best in the modern era.

It was a win, but it was still disappointing that the offense wasn't more aggressive.

Nico hasn't looked as good passing in the last two games for whatever reason.

Bishop often looks better carrying the ball than Sampson, but neither was going to get great numbers tonight without opening the game up.

I'd really like to see holding called without regard to where the hands are on the other player, and not letting the QB throw the ball away to avoid an obvious loss on the play.

We have too many penalties, and some are earned and pretty dumb - especially the un-sportsman like ones.

Agree that it really was classy for Nico to give Heupel the ball.

I'd like to have a personal cup bearer like Heupel has ... the gal in black stalking the sidelines.

An interesting trend I noticed a couple of weeks ago is the number of business jets, private owner jets, and other smaller privately owned planes flying around after football games. Airspace around Norman looks like someone disturbed a hornet's nest.

You can clean up real penalties.

There's **** you can do about the imaginary ones.

All I want is a game called both ways, but we sure as hell didn't get that in this game, even though we won.

That was a hard hitting football game and an SEC road win is an SEC road win and they aren’t easy to come by so I’ll gladly take it. We are better overall than we played in certain phases and OU is better overall than they played in certain phases, both teams should get better as they go. Our offense was a little vanilla tonight, but OU had a little to do with that, our D was pretty stout most of the game and our kicking game was absolutely rock solid as it has been so far this season. Gotta love road trip wins!

The only real issue I’ve got with Nico is he’s holding the ball too long. That’s likely a reflection of the quality of pass rush he’s faced till now. After yesterday I’d guess the young man is smart enough to respond to the wake up call.

I was wrong in my criticism of CJH for running the ball every snap of the 2nd half but 2 or 3. I thought Campbell was back after that injury scare in the 1st half. Turns out he played a quarter or less of the entire game....so we had our 2nd team Tackle at LT for Heard, and our 3rd team Tackle at RT for Campbell. They got their azzes handed to them regularly against that stout OK front, so Hype went run only in the 2nd half to keep Nico from getting hurt. He knew our defense could hold them under 20 points and wasnt going to take the risk unnecessarily. Smart strategy by a smart Coach. Guess i saw Fulmer go into TurtleMode with a lead so many times, only to be upset at the end by SEC rivals...so when i saw what appeared to be the same strategy I was concerned. Props to McDad for seeing that in realtime, i was oblivious until after the game.

Fun Fact: those 2 bad sacks which Nico fumbled each were because the RB didnt pick up the Edge when they easily beat our backup tackles. Once by Sampson, Once by Bishop. They both whiffed on their blocks after the guys ran around/over/thru our backup Tackles. Its only fair to credit each back with allowing half a sack/fumble though, since the tackles had to get whipped 1st in each case to necessitate the RBs picking up a DE running free.

All in all this was a pretty dominant game and wasnt as close as the final score indicates. Our defense is legit no doubt. Also, those Sharps betting on the game lost their azzes. We have beat the spread in all 4 games this year now. G0 VOLS.

Almost every Sooner fan I've talked to today has given respect to our team... shockingly enough.

And every one of them has said they need to bench Arnold and go with Hawkins moving forward. That kid is slippery and has shades of Baker Mayfield when he was there.

Even without the injuries I wanted to see us get dedicated to the run. That is how we control games, teams, and set tempos.

My issue was not going to the short passes more. I know they were in tight man for most of it. But there was some plays we left on the field not going to the easy play on the outside. And trying to do WR screens and reverse/end arounds. That wasn't working with how fast they were playing on D.

Did anyone else get nervous when the backup QB came in?

Is my BVS still that bad?

Fortunately for us it took him a bit to get settled in; he was definitely an improvement over the starting QB. I hope we don't get tested on the backup QB thing many times with our history. It's amazing that opposing coaches never figured it out and simply switched to alternate QBs when we came to town.

and after the fumble at the goal line, Bishop was in for Sampson for the next few series
