Official Gramps' Memorial Eternal OT Thread

Based on current track SE Fla ought to be ok. And moving her at 89 with dementia presents it's own risks.

I was my grandmother's caregiver for the last 5 years of her life post stroke and amidst late stage dementia. It's an awe inspiring affliction in the worst possible way. Kudos to you for being there for her.

This will likely surprise you guys...not just our VOLS but look at the projected records of the playoff teams and our SEC rivals...this is post Arkansas btw.

Also...as always screw Notre Dame. They are gonna make the playoffs nearly every season and never, ever play anybody. Cant lose more than 2 games if you never play anyone though. So overrated. Always. Hope they get "Washingtoned" in the playoffs 65-3 or so...

This is crazy. It's almost reached the mathematical limit on how big it could get?

Look at all that lightning and the narrow eye. At 11 the eye sorta disappeared and will reform a couple more times. We just hope it hits that northern through before saying hello to Tampa.

Worried about yall down in Fla, and anyone in the path of that storm. Thats insanely big and strong winds too. There will be devastation like the NC mountains if it makes landfall with 180-200+ mph winds. When Hugo hit charlotte with 120mph winds it wrecked everything. I know Fla is much more prepared etc but this isnt a normal storm. God bless you guys. I will pray for you.

Thanks but we have her in an assisted living situation which is very well managed. Small, only 5 residents, with full time nurses. I don't think I could handle what they do every day there. That you managed to do it is remarkable testament to your character.

Forecast is for it to weaken prior to landfall and it's really the storm surge along the west coast that is the biggest threat. Where I am, we'll call it east central Florida (30 miles as the crow flies to the Atlanta side) it's wind and rain that are the problem.

At this point it appears the Sarasota impact is built in. It's going to get bad storm surge either way, so a direct hit would be a better case scenario as some of the worst surge would stay a bit south and Tampa/St. Pete would be spared the worst surge. It's possible it could still go south of Sarasota, but not as likely.

Man, I'm sorry your are going through that. Having a mother that succumbed to Alzheimer's I can't imagine having to take care of her with a natural disaster looming.

Thanks but if the track holds true it really wont be that bad a situation in SE Florida. Rainy and blustery, yes, but not requiring any evacuation or anything like that.

Lakewood Ranch. It's kind of between Sarasota and Bradenton.

Jesus dude, I'm in fort myers and worried about surge. You'd in ground zero for the surge and eyewall. GL my man.

I've all but given up hope about making it to knoxville for the UF game. RIP to my $500 ticket + airfare. This is the second time Milton is going to screw me over UF weekend.

Losing always stings, but the second part is the polls. SEC teams are bound to knock each other off; there's not true parity across the conference, but there is enough that any game can go wrong - just ask Bama. What I hate is the residual damage when homers start bouncing teams like OH St, PN St, ND, etc up the rankings. It just gives college football a disgusting aftertaste. Clemson beat FSU (who hasn't) and got bumped several notches. We may or may not belong where we are (largely depending on how the team reacts and rebounds ... or doesn't), but few teams outside the big10 get the royal treatment that they and ND get. It's been that way in the 60 years that I've followed college football, and it's disgusting.

Another thing about that article. A 10-3 Miami team in the NC race???? HTH can you be a top ACC team and rack up three losses with an OOC schedule like Miami has? Some of these "experts" need a real reality check, and some of these "experts" are the same clowns responsible for the rankings.

The eye is intense; last night the winds around the eye were quite a bit stronger but they don't seem to project out a long way. The eye is still just off the Yucatan Peninsula, but the Cancun and Merida airports are showing 16 knot wind, and Cancun has a lot of flights in and out without much delay. I've never studied hurricanes, but it's enough to wonder if the ones that really get wrapped up in themselves fizzle out faster - or if it will ramp up again during the daylight hours.

We're 11 miles inland and not in a flood zone. Should be a wind event. Definitely taking it seriously.

Did local Indian mounds save Tampa Bay from Irma's worst? Some say yes

I got a weird feeling those Tocobogan burial grounds aren't protecting us this time. It's gonna smack us in da kisser.
