Official Gramps' Memorial Eternal OT Thread

[/QUOTE]
I broke it down in another thread.

Texas, OSU, and UGA didn't have a first or second year player starting for them on the line. Bama had 1, Proctor kid, he didn't unseat someone, he took an open spot.

the rest of the SEC isn't much different. its old guys and transfers.

Alabama has 1 first or second year player starting on the OL.
Auburn has 1
Arkansas has 0
Florida has 1
Georgia has 0
Kentucky has 0
LSU has 1
Mississippi State has 0
Missouri has 0
Oklahoma has 1
Ole Miss has 1 (a transfer sophmore)
South Carolina has 1
TAMU has 0
Texas has 0
Vandy has 0

the first class was an absolute wash as the coaches were only here for like 2 months.
the second class we had the NCAA hanging over us. Umarov as noted is the most likely to play.
the third class are true freshman, and it looks like Satterwhite at Center is our #2 already.

Oline isn't great, but we aren't way out of whack from what the norm is either in the top teams or the SEC.

I think 4th class would be true freshman this year and 3rd would be redshirt FR or true soph.

The first class in 21 obviously cant be held against them but there's been little to nothing from 2nd and 3rd classes to date.

After watching some replay again, and listening to the VQ guys as well...things likely arent as bad as they might seem.

Sometimes its just not your night, and the defense has exactly the right playcall or audible to kill your called play on offense. An example of this was running straight into run blitzes in the 1st half, or having a pass play called when the defense is in the perfect defense to cover your WRs. Arkansas did a good job on defense, and got lucky a couple times and had the perfect Kryptonite for what we were trying to do that play. Its a chessmatch out there. It happens. They also made some great plays on the Dline and breaking up passes in the secondary. They deserve credit.

That said, we had about 10 posessions in that game. Thats it. Bishop himself whiffed in pass pro and killed 2 of them. Sampson did also at least once. Penalties killed 3 or 4 by putting us in 1st and 15, ineligible downfield on Umarov (was BS), and 2 drives had offensive pass interference/holding. We scored TDs on the 2 drives after halftime...add those up. That pretty much gets us to the last drive of the game. CJH crapped the bed there...we had a 45 yard completion with 35 seconds left after the catch. He didnt call timeout, it took our linemen etc 18 seconds to get up, get downfield and set for the next play. We snapped the ball next with 17 seconds on a running clock. Terrible clock management. Incomplete pass to Kitzelman at 10yd line...down to 7 seconds left so we finally take the TO to try and scheme a game winning play. Thats on the coaches. CJH mostly, but also Halzle in the booth. They screwed up. It happens. Nobody points out the brilliant choice to let Arkansas score beforehand. Almost never see it...it was brilliant, and the only reason we had any chance at all to win the game at that point.

It only takes 1 player....on 1 play...not doing their job exactly right to kill a drive vs a good defense. Even moreso when you lose Bru, and Squirrel, have 2 banged up Tackles getting their azzes handed to them etc. Thats life in the SEC these days. 1 penalty, 1 sack, 1 dropped pass or great play by a DB and your drive is dead. Arkansas followed the blueprint used by UGA and it worked. Ball control offense chews up all the clock, limit our possessions, and take risks with blitzes designed for the run AND for the pass to kill our drives when they can. Everyone will try to do this now. Will be interesting to see how it plays out. I am every bit as worried about our 2 hurt WRs as I am about our 2 hurt Tackles. GO VOLS
As much as you are in the moment and "demanding" with your posts during the game, you are also very good at looking objectively at things later.

We had some really uncharacteristically bad performances from a few people the whole evening. Even Nico was holding the ball longer and not seeing things as well. Understandbly so because of the OL and the horrible night our tackles had.

Other than the consistently bad performers, we simply had a bad play at the wrong time by players randomly throughout the night. Missed blocks by RBs. RG blocking "air". LB out of positions. TE whiffing on block. Penalty.

Like you said, it wasn't our night. But is was theirs. Greene put throws on the money even with great coverage.

Sometimes it be like that.

How many have first- or second-year guys contributing. Not starting, but contributing?

I don't buy into "that class doesn't count". They obviously took some guys. If you don't think they'll ever contribute, why take them? You don't take bodies just to take bodies.

I have no way of easily tracking that. if you want to argue they are, you need to prove it. because right now, your first assumption was off.

I think the back breaker was the penalty on the punt. that was just really poorly timed. dude sold it, but it was an easy call for 5 yards and the first down. that gave them momentum.

also right at the end of the 3rd quarter they fumbled the ball and we recovered. but they blew it dead and never reviewed.

well today has been pretty Monday for a Monday.

woke up early to take care of some things at work before HR comes around to yell at me.

Have a flat, big ole screw going thru the side wall. but its so early no place is open yet.
Try to work from home, but there is a new login process that doesn't work at all like the IT said it should, never could get logged on.
Go in for my tire, asked if I could just buy one tire, they say sure. but they have to install, and it will take the 45 minutes to get to me. Told them I could change it faster than that. but for "liability purposes" they have to do 5 minutes of work, just so happens that charges me an extra 30 bucks.
Finally get on the road and to work, internet problems, and with everything cloud based, access to even work files is spotty.
now I hear from my GF that her vehicle is leaking a noticeable amount of oil. so it sounds like I may be driving her around for a while.
HR is literally waiting at my desk to ask about what I was trying to get in early for. got it done in 5 minutes.

all of this before 10am.

Lmao. I woke up with a flat tire too!! Nail or screw, not sure yet because its a pretty slow leak. I have an electric inflator and a 100ft drop cord so i filled it this morning. I always get my tires at Discount Tire and get the warranty for ~$20 a tire and they patch all the flats i get for free from drywall screws, roofing nails, button caps on the jobsite. If its too close to or in the sidewall, they replace the tire as long as it still has like 15 or 20% of the tread remaining and isnt on its deathbed already. **I never pay what they ask for a set of tires though.** You can haggle 20% maybe more off the price they 1st quote you by being super nice and telling them you cant afford them. Do it every single time. I think they must make a commission % or something, to be able to drop prices the way they do. You can likely get a little break even if you only buy 2. Sometimes a particular brand is already running a special and thats the best they can do on that particular tire...but unless your vehicle runs an odd tire size they probably have 8-10 different tires for your vehicle. You can also go with a 10mm wider or taller tire etc to buy a size that has a great deal. Your rims have a small range of tire sizes that fit them...not just the exact tire size that came on your vehicle. Yall probably know all this already, but whatever. I get a couple flats a year from work and get them fixed free. They have replaced a couple too because it was in the sidewall or close. Good luck Louder. Hope your day gets better man.

Great post Louder thanks. I wondered about the other teams...this is just a grown azz man league. I was elated to hear AP say that both the coaches and starters think the Oline guys from 2024 can play in time. Umarov is the only guy from 2023 thats gonna contribute at all right? The other good one is starting at center for Arkansas...that was a mutual decision though. Sadly he was a Tennessee kid that loves the VOLS. He just wasnt willing to wait his turn maybe, or was an NIL casualty due to Satterwhite showing promise as a freshman? Who knows on that one.

Thanks man. This game was the most I posted and I was a jackazz though. We usually have our own little game thread in the Gramps OT, but sans me getting so pissed at the coaches. Sorry about that fellas. I dont know why I was so uptight either. Little alcohol would have probably helped lmao. People always make better decisions drinking right? 😊 thanks for putting up with me.

I agree wholeheartedly with your post. If we only get 9 or 10 posessions in a game, every one is critical to put up points. 1 guy on 1 play can kill the drive, and usually does. EVERYBODY had a bad game. Oline, RBs, TEs, all allowed sacks (5 IIRC) our WRs sucked and got hurt, QBs you name it. Even Jermod McCoy who has been shut-down all year graded out horribly around 50 in the PFF grades. He played like 70 snaps though...literally never missed a snap on defense. Umarov had the dumb penalty, but graded out highest by far on the Oline. Cooper had a bad game.

Both Cooper AND Nico had trouble with identifying blitzers and assigning blockers. We are gonna see that 3-3-5 "stack" defense or the closest opponents can mimic it from their base sets in every game until we beat it a couple times. Misery, UGA, and now Arkansas all used it with success against us and beat us. It isnt the formation itself...there are myriad different plays run from any base alignment including the Stack. It isnt special. What it does though is gets 6 or sometimes even 7 guys up near the LOS threatening to blitz and makes Cooper and each Olineman point and/or call out who they are gonna block on each play... Not a big deal at home...but on the road, they cannot hear eachother and the RB/Nico cant hear them either. The confusion results in sacks. Guessing wrong on who is actually coming causes sacks and/or a back or lineman with nobody to block while a defender runs free. Its chaos, and we have to get MUCH better at dealing with it or we are cooked.

My "first assumption" hasn't been proven wrong. I never assumed they should be starting. I even said contributing, not starting. Read better.

Nichols was in the '22 class. Still possible that Vysen Lang from the '23 class can eventually be a contributor.

what do you mean by contributing? playing 20% of snaps in SEC games? got a start when the usual guy was out? hasn't let up a sack in X amount of plays? Offense doesn't drop off when they are in?

its easy to be vague and complain that the team isn't meeting some standard that isn't even defined; yet alone one that may not even be based in reality.

Looking at SEC 2nd string O-line, no idea if these guys have played at all. no idea if they are transfers, no idea if they are supposed to be any good. just providing some actual data before ranting about the ways things should be.

Bama has 3 Rs FR
Arkansas has 0 second year guys
Auburn has 2 RS FR
Florida has 2 RS Fr
Georgia has 1 So, 2 RS FR, and 1 FR
Kentucky has 3 freshman
LSU has 2 RS FR and 2 FR
Ole Miss has 1 RS FR
Mississippi State has 1 RS FR, and 1 FR
Missouri has 1 RS FR
Oklahoma has 2 RS FR, 1 FR
South Carolina has 2 SO, and 2 RS FR
Tennessee has a RS FR (Umarov) and a FR (Satterwhite)
Texas has a RS FR, and a FR
TAMU has a FR
Vandy has a RS FR

we aren't out of whack with depth pieces being first or second year guys either. the above averages out to be 2.1 per SEC team.

It seems often like "bad nights" are a combination of bad breaks and then loss of confidence. I still like to go back to the 1986 Sugar Bowl as an example. Miami came in fired up and ready - maybe a bit too overconfident for their own good. Our defense spent the night in their backfield - a lot like AR did in this game. Nico looked pretty lackluster - not at all like in earlier games. He didn't have much time to do anything, and receivers were apparently dealing with their own issues (not much camera coverage down field). Eventually it looked like the offensive performance got the best of the defense, too. There's definitely the "when it's not your night", and it often starts the lack of confidence landslide.

A part of me always dies when you see the throws out to the sidelines behind the line ... inevitably it seems there are a ton of defenders out there to cover. I wish that play would just die in favor of something like the option that Heuple has thrown in a few times ... anything but that play anyway.

You'd be amazed by the things the wife has collected in tires. One of the craziest was one of those big flat pins that go in scaffolds. Like 3/4 wide and not sharp. How can you even slam that through the tire tread on a highway?

Contributing. Able to rotate in without too large a drop off when the starter needs a blow.

I understand being upset after a loss, especially vs an unranked team...and 3 years in a row dropping a roadgame vs an unranked team. Thats a pattern. Its no bueno, and we will have a real hard time ever making the playoffs if we cant break the habit of the yearly upset. All this is true.

That said, IMO its ridiculous to have fans calling for coaches jobs and insulting individual players in the FF. For a slew of reasons that don't need elaboration.

Just looking at flight radars. It seems there's one thing that can actually get damn yankees to go home - hurricanes.

Football forum?

Dude! I was getting fired up at YOU over here Saturday night! 🤣🤣🤣🤣

The FF just makes my eyes bleed. I knew you’d come back after a day or two, you are just a game-day-crazy, but you return to normal soon enough.

Those freaks over there? They are to be pitied. They could use a car ride through Western NC to learn how to get their priorities in order.

Hoping the Vols in the path of this latest Hurricane are moving out or hunkering down.

This one looks kinda nasty.

It's definitely spun up. I count two NOAA and one AF plane (WC-130J) checking it out. Just a bit earlier planes were flying in and out of the airports on the NW side of the Yucatan - now only Cancun still looks busy.
