Official Gramps' Memorial Eternal OT Thread

I agree on all points. That said, my boss/buddy wants to go to an SEC game with me next season(we have before) and he is talking about the GA game. Having never been down on the field except at OnW games, if everyone rushes the field then we would likely go too. Kind of a YOLO thing. What sucks is that UT has to cut a $100k check to the opponent each time we rush the field. That sucks. Hubbs and the VQ guys mentioned that a lot of people were stealing divots of turf from the field...which all has to be sewn back into the sod and repaired immediately. Lucky we have 2 weeks before KU slinks into town for their annual beating.
I was a freshman in 1982. Yes I rushed the field. I have a pic from the Sunday News Sentinel where I am on the back end of the south goal post horizontal bar as we carry it down Cumberland. As you said YOLO

Still disgusting to see OR, OH St, and PN St ranked in the top when they haven't played anybody noteworthy. OH St lost it's one big game to OR, and that is hardly a reason to bump OR to the top. PN St beat IL - and their only win was over a ranked KS team that's now 2-5. The big10 has too many patsies and too little parity - just like the ACC. I'm still not sold about where we belong, but some of the top 10 certainly don't belong where they are if you actually look at their record.

Exactly.

Oregon doesnt play anyone the rest of the way either. Just looked it up....4-3 Michigan is their toughest remaining game. No buckeyes, no Indiana. So Oregon is like Clemson/Miami and has a ridiculously easy path to a 1-4 seed in the playoffs and a 1st round bye. The big12 is a joke all around. Weakest of the P4 conferences in terms of how good are their best 2 or 3 teams versus the other big conferences best teams...

I have said all along that IMO the best path to a Title for us is the 5th seed in the playoffs with NO SEC championship game. The 5seed gets the FCS 12th seed team at home (Neyland) then the 4th seed (big12 champ?) Thats an easy path to the final 4 in my opinion. Relatively speaking of course. Much better than having to play 1 of the other top4 teams in the SEC in those earlier rounds to get to the final4. Since by design 3/4 of seeds 1 thru 4 absolutely will not be SEC teams, that means that 3 SEC teams will be seeded 5 thru 11. Those are deep waters. I would rather beat a couple teams from other conferences before the final4 and not have the team so beat up physically.

What do you guys think?

Oregon already beat tOSU. It was last weeks game of the week and Gameday was there.

tOSS U has historically been a good football program, but there's no real body of work so far this year to measure them by. It's like taking an isolated event (tOSS U vs OR) and deciding that one beat the other so they should be No 1 nationally. That's as absurd as Clemson and Miami in the ACC. There's not enough parity across the board in the big10 or ACC to measure a rarely tested team. Some of their bottom dwellers aren't much better than teams we played early in the season.

Yep. I think they have a significant advantage at home vs eastern teams in that they have the normal crowd noise etc...but also jetlag and travel fatigue on the other teams. We looked like absolute crap at Oregon when we went, plus those games at Cal, UCLA etc back in the day. Not to take anything away from them beating the Buckeyes...thats a big win for sure regardless. My point was that they play nobody from here on out ...so they will likely be at the top from here on out. Thats 100% our fault...if we had beaten Arkansas like we should have, we would be no1 right now.

There's still a lot of playing to be done to sort out just the top of the SEC. For now it looks like GA,TX, LSU, ATM, and maybe we might be in the running ... and that's a big field of teams, and there are some serious teams like Bama that are out of the running but could still beat any of those teams. MS St and Vandy used to be safe games, and you can't take them for granted either. I can agree that a 5-1 SEC team is probably more deserving of the top spot than a 6-0 big10 or ACC team; but even with an AR win, I be hard pressed to say that we should be the one because our SEC play has still been way too shaky for comfort.

more wins than Dooley, Kiffin, Jones and Pruitt..combined..

Pretty sure that's Derek, but a lot of GA fans would probably have added Vince to the list since GA could never win the big ones with him there - at least according to rabid GA fans. You know UGA can't be left alone with GA fans since no one wants him or her getting pregnant by humans or getting rabies. Even Bama fans don't stoop to bestiality ... probably.

^^^ headhunting like that is just dirty play. Whether they lead with the crown of the helmet or not. When your point of contact is 5ft off the ground, you're just trying to hurt somebody. Its also how you get trucked by anyone except a defenseless player like this poor kid. Hope everyone was OK.

My 96 yr old mother just went into UT hospital and I need to get to Knoxville next week to start handling her affairs. One of my brothers who works contract in Shelby, NC is planning to drive over from there on Saturday Nov 2 but we have not tried yet to book a hotel. Knowing the KY game is that weekend, we're probably SOL for getting a hotel room in Knoxville. I'm thinking about renting a cabin in the Seymour - Sevierville - Pigeon Forge area for about a week starting Nov 1. Any recommendations?

sorry to hear about your mom. and sorry i can't be any help.

Some of the national media have dropped Pearce from a #1 or lottery pick to a mid-first rounder because his sack totals are lower so far this season. Those who study our defense know that he only played about 10 snaps a game vs our 3 blowout opponents, and only played about half the game vs OK and 2/3 at most vs Ark. He has still greatly impacted the games with TFLs, hurries, etc despite frequent double teams.

Vs Bama he finally got to REALLY shine, and we don't win without him. That fumble forced AND recovered was a matter of him simply taking the ball from Milroe, whose arms are huge in their own right. Pearce just violently took the ball from him though, because he wanted it more. It was beautiful to behold. That wasnt all Pearce did though check out this stat sheet:

On 32 pass plays Pearce:

2 sacks
1 hit
6 TFLs
18 pressures

PLUS the 1 forced fumble, 1 fumble recovered, and any tackles he had on other running plays. He was absolutely dominant for the 1st time this year. Since he got his 1st sack @Ark it seems like he has relaxed and gotten in his groove. Right on time IMO. Great job by Coach Garner not playing him all the time thru the easy portion of our schedule and wearing him out. Our Dline has gotten better every game this year and is clearly dominant. This week D. Bailey really stepped up and had his best game as a VOL.

Nothing dirty about that play, that's football.

Sorry to hear about your mom ND. God bless you and your family bud. I have spent so many nights sleeping in a chair at UT hospital, I cant attempt to count them. If you end up needing another place to stay, let me know and I will put you in touch. Hope everything goes as well as possible man. If theres any way I can help gimme a shout.
