Official Gramps' Memorial Eternal OT Thread

Found this elsewhere on VN...Sanders family really classy and stand up folks. Deions son (not QB) beat up a security guard, broke his neck in the process etc. Got an $11MM judgment against him in court...and is now filing bankruptcy while trying to claim none of his NIL money and apparently very little of his assets in the process.

Maybe Aflac can help cover some of those unexpected expenses

Kinda going around the hurricane in the Gulf today. Lots of rain and heavy waves.

But still on track.

I wondered how that was going; it's sitting right in the middle of your part of the Caribbean. At least it never got super strong and continues to weaken. This is a great site for keeping tabs on storm systems and weather patterns. Satellite with overlays like weather radar, wind vectors, and cloud/fog. You can zoom out to see entire oceans or continents or zoom in for detail - very worthwhile to keep on your browser.

We gave up 14 points and people are worried about our defense thats top 5 nationally. My, how the turns have tabled.

Arion Carter is beat up, but still played a good game. Telander has filled in better for Pili than anyone could have expected. Both of those fine LBs had to come off the field at times and were replaced by others...because they are human. MSU ran the exact same play running in the A gap about 10 times. Because it worked...their center and guards are good at combo blocking defensive tackles.

If we cannot beat UGA in Athens, it won't be because of our defense folks. This is the best defense we have had since 98 hands down. It will be because we cannot score points, and because we have false start penalties, and because our Tackles will get too many Holding calls because they are the weak point of our team. UGA loves to shift their whole Dline sideways 1 gap...right before the ball is snapped which messes up blocking schemes. It has given us problems in the past. Hopefully we practice against it this week.

I think its gonna be a low scoring, ugly rock fight type game. We have won a bunch of those this year...and lost 1. Lets go beat those Pups and claim the no1 spot where we belong.
GO VOLS

My thoughts on UGA. Posted in the FF thread where people are complaining about our defense that gave up 14 points to MSU.

Several in the FF are wanting to fire our OC. We have the craziest fans. Play calling has not been the issue this season. Drops, turnovers, and penalties are the biggest problems offensively.

Agreed. If Nico (who is a freshman!) Had only hit half the wide open WRs streaking downfield for TDS...we beat Ark, and beat bama AND Flarda easily by 21pts or more. Go watch the tape. If our kicker doesnt miss 3 FGs against UK, we win by 19 points and the game is over at halftime. Despite 2 turnovers in the redzone. We turned the ball over twice in the redzone in the 1st quarter alone yesterday (fumble at the 12, turnover on downs at the 1 because Lewis didnt look outside to his left where he could have walked into the endzone untouched) Despite these 2 turnovers in the 1st quarter AND Nico missing Bru wide open for a TD, we still lead the entire game and it was never really in doubt. Coach had so much confidence in our defense and RBs that he rested Nico for the 2nd half as a precaution.

Playcalling has been much better this season than last. Whats really funny is that CJH calls most of the plays, we run HIS offense, and so changing offensive coordinators will do little to nothing to change our offense. The truth in the matter is that we simply don't have Hyatt anymore who was ALWAYS the fastest man on the field...and when we DO get guys running wide open down the field, Nico overthrows them sometimes. Hendon Hooker almost never did. Ever. That's why he reset nearly every passing record at UT for 1 season. He was also what 24 years old in his 5th or 6th year of college? Nico is maybe 19 years old and has played less than 1 season of college football. In the SEC...which is just a feeder league for the NFL these days, and has parity like never before in my lifetime. There are no more easy wins in the SEC. Even Vandy will flat beat our azzes if we do not show up 100% ready to play. Ask bama.

Our fans are really embarrassing sometimes. I try to assume that its just drunk posting, and trolls. Like in society, a small but very loud minority trying to seem bigger and more important than they actually are. The same types that got completely rejected in the election.

This sounds crazy, but I honestly dont care if we lose to UGA by a couple points. We have been super blessed and lucky with injuries all season (Pili and a hobbled Squirrel being the only exceptions) but now late in the season, our whole team is beatup from the toll an SEC schedule takes on these guys bodies. Injuries are starting to add up, bodies breaking down, and a close loss to UGA means NOT having to play against another bigtime SEC team full of NFL players in the SEC champ game. I dont want to play in the SEC champ game either. The 12 game schedule with 8 SEC games is absolutely brutal all by itself. Nobody in any other conference has any idea. TV deals have steadily added games over the decades to now have 12, 13 if you make the champ game. Then a championship run in the playoffs adds 3 or 4 more? You're talking about 17 games, just like the NFL plays. We have been lucky, but we are razor thin on the Oline...and both our tackles have been playing hurt all year. Now BOTH of our starting guards are banged up. Karic never returned to the game in the 2nd half Sat, Spraggins left hurt but returned for a while. Arion Carter is banged up too...we are very thin at LB right now. The Oline and LB are 2 very, very important parts of winning football. We need these guys healthy. I dont want them taking anymore snaps then absolutely necessary...I hope against UTEP we can play backups nearly everywhere. Even if it means we barely scrape by with a win. The playoffs are ALL that really matters. Nobody cares or will remember in 5 years who won the SEC championship in 2024. The real Champ from the playoffs will be remembered forever. Thats what really matters. I dont want us to do anything that causes any disadvantages in the playoffs. I understand that others will see this differently.

the funny thing to me with conference championships and the playoffs is they sell it as the winners getting a bye week. everyone not in their conference championship game gets championship weekend off instead. both still end up with 3 weeks off. the top 4 will get a couple days extra as those games are Tuesday-Wednesday, but I don't know if that makes much of a difference.

the only loser is the team that makes the championship game, and loses, and then plays in the first week. they would only have 2 weeks.
