Official Gramps' Memorial Eternal OT Thread

This sounds crazy, but I honestly dont care if we lose to UGA by a couple points. We have been super blessed and lucky with injuries all season (Pili and a hobbled Squirrel being the only exceptions) but now late in the season, our whole team is beatup from the toll an SEC schedule takes on these guys bodies. Injuries are starting to add up, bodies breaking down, and a close loss to UGA means NOT having to play against another bigtime SEC team full of NFL players in the SEC champ game. I dont want to play in the SEC champ game either. The 12 game schedule with 8 SEC games is absolutely brutal all by itself. Nobody in any other conference has any idea. TV deals have steadily added games over the decades to now have 12, 13 if you make the champ game. Then a championship run in the playoffs adds 3 or 4 more? You're talking about 17 games, just like the NFL plays. We have been lucky, but we are razor thin on the Oline...and both our tackles have been playing hurt all year. Now BOTH of our starting guards are banged up. Karic never returned to the game in the 2nd half Sat, Spraggins left hurt but returned for a while. Arion Carter is banged up too...we are very thin at LB right now. The Oline and LB are 2 very, very important parts of winning football. We need these guys healthy. I dont want them taking anymore snaps then absolutely necessary...I hope against UTEP we can play backups nearly everywhere. Even if it means we barely scrape by with a win. The playoffs are ALL that really matters. Nobody cares or will remember in 5 years who won the SEC championship in 2024. The real Champ from the playoffs will be remembered forever. Thats what really matters. I dont want us to do anything that causes any disadvantages in the playoffs. I understand that others will see this differently.

I still honestly believe the big10 has been goading and shaming the SEC into a ninth game because they know exactly what will happen. There's not a safe SEC team to play, but the big10 and the ACC have some real losers for the cream to beat up on. Teams do need to play within their conference, but the SEC has more parity, and it's a killer. I'm not a fan of the extended schedules; we played more quality OOC opponents when we had a ten game schedule, and players got a little more downtime. Time to get back to basics and recognize it's students playing games and not athletes playing student.

just to mess with the Big 10 I would counter, the SEC is willing to set up games for every SEC team against every Big 10 team in lieu of a 9th conference game.

We be good. Would also like penalties called fairly. Our DL is getting mauled and the refs don't see nuttin.

Need to start using body grease to prevent holding. Seems like holding is only called when it's a take down and probably when the projected SEC winner needs a little help.

I'd like to see the P4 set up some annual interconference games, every SEC teams gets a B10, Big12 or ACC team every year.

Yep, and to really rub it in, do home and home games with the big10 bottom dwellers. Gets a win and the big10 losses hurt the strength of schedule etc for the top big10 teams.

I would like if we could just set that up so everyone of those games were played on the same weekend. Like the third saturday of the season is SEC vs Big 10, and the 5th Saturday is ACC vs Big 12. let a couple games be played, and then match up teams based on relative strength in conference.

I am pretty sure even Missouri would beat Indiana. a scrappy SC or Vandy would be fun to watch play a Big 10 team too.

If there is any wrinkle in our game plan, anything we've been saving, this saturday is the game to empty the basket. Ideal scenario is:
- Nico continuing to improve, his second half of bama to getting dinged in Ms state has been better.
- O line continuing to improve.
- Defense get a score or two especially if Beck continues to do Beck things.
- Get a lead early to remove the crowd and never allow them to crawl back in.

I agree with all of this, naturally. This is gonna be a brawl behind the gym after school. Teachers ain't coming to break it up. Shiners and fat lips for everybody. Points will likely be very hard to come by, 1st team to 20pts wins. The over/under is 48pts I believe...I would take the under. Both teams are significantly better on defense than offense. Much like the bama game, this stressfest is likely to come down to the last posession. A couple plays will decide this game. Gameday, primetime ABC, the whole country will be watching. GO VOLS.

Love this. SC would beat every team in the Big10 but Oregon and Ohio State IMO. Vandy would probably lose to both and PSU if they had to play all 3. Penn St vc SC would be a slobberknocker. The Cocks front 7 is really good, and their pair of DEs are great. Statistically better than Pearce/Josephs last I saw by a pretty wide margin. Especially on sacks. Nobody wants to play them, especially in Columbia.

I am not saying Oregon and the Buckeyes aren't good. Their 4 year recruiting averages say they are very good. We will find out in the playoffs how they match up I guess, but they seem solid but not dominant IMO. As much as the Big10 wants to make reality that them and the SEC are head and shoulders above the other 2 conferences in the P4 (and they are) theres a big difference between the 2. There are only 2 Big10 teams that even have a shot at winning the playoffs. Penn St and Indiana are a tier below them. The SEC has 5 teams that if they play well could win it all:
Tennessee
UGA
Bama
Texas
OMiss

Even after those 5, there are several teams NOBODY wants to play on a neutral field, that on their best day are capable of beating anyone:
SC
LSU
aTm

I am glad we don't have to go play any of those 3 on the road this year. Each of them can beat you up physically. We havent even discussed Vandy yet and they beat Bama. We are also in a historically bad season for Barn, and UK and UF are weaker than usual too. The parity in the SEC now is crazy, since everyone can get away with paying players rather than just Bama etc. I believe we would/will dominate a B1G/SEC showdown and look forward to it. Their teams just look slow and small compared to ours. We will find out in the next few seasons if the increased rigor from playing tough SEC teams all year is an advantage in the tournament, or if our teams are so beat up from 8 conference games that we are at a disadvantage from injuries. I think for the most part it will be the former. GO VOLS.

$4.50 for a bottle of water. Yikes!

First one was free sorta. SSC and I are in "Red" status which grants us one 1.5 liter bottle.

Otherwise, we have the drinks package and bottled water is free. I'm also taking advantage of the alcohol.

Just got off the Bolt roller coaster. It's more intense than it looks.

I could see this being one of those games that no one sees coming too. like its an offensive explosion, first team to 50 wins.

seems like too many times when everybody expects a low scoring game the offenses come out firing.
