I had to give my grandson a swat on the backside for not listening. He turns around looking all serious and says “grammy spanks harder” and walks away. It was all I could do not to burst out laughing.

My Pappaw is my hero, to this very day and I am 47 years old. He was such a good man that it has always made me want to be a better man myself, just to make him proud. I hope everyone who reads this has or had someone in their life that loved you as completely, as undeservedly, and as sacrificially as my Pappaw loved me. I try to make my kids feel, at least when I can, the way he always made me feel. Like I was the most important person on Earth...to him. I miss him every single day, and as much as the success of our football team brings me great joy, I am sad every game because I cant call him or my Dad to talk about what is or isn't happening. I used to talk to them both, every game. Through all those years we sucked too. They both died a few years ago, right before we got good again. I know most of you guys children are grown now, the heavy lifting of parenting is done. You can still have a HUGE impact on your grandkids lives though. Probably as big an influence as you want it to be. My Pappaw taught me more about being a boy, and especially a man, than everyone else in my life combined. God bless all the Pappaws and Grannys out there pouring love and life into their grandkids. You will be sorely missed when yall are gone.
