Official Gramps' Memorial Eternal OT Thread

In case I forget. I wanna wish all y’all a Happy Thanksgiving. I gave up Facebook and other forms of social media like it years ago because it was just too toxic. But here I’ve found a home among reasonable people that always make compelling and logical arguments. 😉

Y’all enjoy getting fat tomorrow and Go Vols!!
Back atcha. Happy Thanksgiving to all you guys and gals. Hope your day is filled with great food, friends, and family.

Crazy to think that 5 years ago we went 4-8...losing 8 games for the first time in the history of Tennessee Football. All time low.

Now with a victory over Vandy, we will have 30 victories in the last 3 seasons...averaging 10 per year...with a chance to add to that total in the playoffs. I am a believer that theres not another coach/staff in the nation that could have turned this program around any faster. We finally paired the right Coach, with the right staff, at the right time, with a great AD at a sleeping giant of a football program...and it has worked beautifully against all odds in by far the most difficult conference in CFB.

If you told anyone 5 years ago where we would be right now, they would have never believed you. I personally would have never believed you...especially with the NCAA probation hanging over our heads. The lost scholarships and visits by recruits. The stink of that illiterate Gump all over the team. The kids that chose to stay, the recruits that chose to come here anyway, and the staff that changed this culture overnight into a place that 5* kids want to choose over Bama and UGA have been amazing. I am thankful for the AD, the Coaching staff, and the players on this 2024 team. Regardless of what happens in the playoffs, our guys have every reason to be proud of what they have accomplished. Been a great season to watch through the ups and downs. Now lets go beat Vandy down like they deserve on their own field...which we rightfully also own since it resides in Tennessee.

It really has been a fun season. Now it's time to stomp the pi$$ outta Vandy and win the dam CFP.

Can you do a tax deferred exchange (this exists in real estate) when you purchase another bar since the businesses are similar?

Wish I think I saw this last week since I might have nearby while in Knoxville.

Can't 1031 a stock transaction. If you have capital losses, you can always realize those to offset this gain. I'd assume the stock wasn't held in some type of IRA.

You do have potential deferrals with structuring the new investment in an opportunity zone structure. Most of Downtown Knoxville, including Gay St, is located in an opportunity zone. I'd expect Trump will try to extend those given that's a direct benefit to him. My guess is the cost to do this probably isnt worth the deferral.

I like your fancy words there, magic man. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.

This maybe borderline acceptable but..

My 4 yo grandson was arguing with his 7 yo sister and she said something about the govt says you can’t and he replied “I don’t have a government“. Have to admit that I felt a little sense of pride in that.

Oh to be young again! I remember feeling so much better when I was of the age that I had “no government”.
