Official Greg Roman Thread

Long Time Listener First Time Caller:

I have lurking around the JG thread for about 3 weeks. I must say it is quite addictive. I just do not see Gruden as a possibility anymore, so just looking at this with no sources I think Greg Roman is a good candidate and here is why.

He has recruited with some of the best Jim Harbaugh and David Shaw. I remember when Shaw took over at Stanford everyone thought they would have a huge fall off but that did not happen. I have heard (just from national talk radio no links) that this guy could be in the running for some NFL looks. If you are good enough to get a shot at the highest level why not Tennessee. I have also heard rumors that his wife is from the area (sound familiar) and they would like to live in this area. He has not proven anything on his own but he does have a pretty good pedigree (also sounds familiar but his is not based off his Dad LK, DD). I think I would rather get the next David Shaw or Jim Harbaugh than some of the names that are being thrown around lately.

I think these guys like Harbaugh and Shaw have a good idea about what it takes to win. I know it will be harder to win at Tennessee because its the SEC, but you have to admit it has to be hard to recruit to Stanford as well. If we spend the money to get a JG caliber staff, he will not have any problem recruiting players that he can coach into winners.

Some guys are are known to be home runs like AROD, and Barry Bonds, buts some guys surprise you like Mike Trout. I think Greg Roman could be a good surprise for someone. Why not Tennessee? We really were not that far off with DD think what could happen with a head coach.

OK let me have it everyone!

It's not like we can just call whoever we want and expect them to be our new coach. They have to have some interest. As for the last paragraph you probably should have stopped while you were ahead. All in all just another useless thread.

I would have him in my top 5. There are various reports that he has had his agent contact UT on his behalf.

I like Roman also. I still think he might be a dark horse hire. He has had a lot of NFL experience.

A big indicator is how the 49ers offense blossomed with Kapernick in the past two games. The offense really opened up once they had the right quarterback who could gun the ball and make use of the weapons on that team.

I agree with this and I think he should be somebody we take a long hard look at for this job.

As @JWilkersonWNML points out regularly I am Greg Roman's Southeast representation. Dude's family says he wants the job. Give it to him

can you imagine roman with a DC say a ron zook or randy shannon!!! i'm sure there are more DC out there but those are two off the top of my head

Roman sounds good but here is the thing: he's a coordinator on a super bowl contender. Guys in his spot start thinking NFL head coach, not college. And I doubt he'd quit the Niners with the playoffs a month away. He's also a coordinator with one of nfl's best coaches--another reason why he'll soon be in line for an NFL big job. He'd say no to us.

Word on the street is he actually wants the UT...and Bill O'brien was with the patriots all during their SB run...it can be done

We should give him a call, for sure, but I'd be surprised if he left the Niners. We need to focus on somebody who seems to want the job--but then that was supposed to be sStrong, who turned out to be a wimp.

From what I understand, Roman called us, we did not call him.

I know nothing about this guy. But if it's true, that he wants to coach here. Than freaking fantastic! Let's get him now!
