Official Jon Gruden Thread 37

You're right, Stoked. Completely right.

Atlanta Vol made two statements about his presence or absence:

So I think folks sub-consciously combined these two statements into one, that he would never confirm it was done before it was announced, but would cease posting.

Which, as you point out, is not what he said.

The fact that Atlanta Vol hasn't posted lately (as Atlanta Vol by name...he's probably still here under an alias) isn't proof that the deal is still good; it is only an indication that the AD's office asked him to stop posting until the announcement is made.

...

Having helped clarify that, I still firmly believe the deal is done, and we're in the quiet period waiting for the announcement's proper timing.

Exactly this.

Oh brother they didn't execute a gag order, how precisely would they enforce it or prove it? The speaking of its existence by anyone not named Currie or Gruden would be a violation of its very definition by implying the existence of a contract.

Cheers

I think it's safe to say a loss to LsU and we get an announcement soon after, but a win could put it off until after Vandy

I know it has been posted by several but as a long time lurker and sometimes poster these are a few things that stand out:

1. Gruden or the Admin have never denied anything about him being coach.

2. The Grudens have either looked at or bought a home in the Knoxville area.
Some say it is for his son but a huge house for a college student is a
stretch.

3. His son is a student and I assume he wants to graduate from UT and the
pressure on him if his dad did not come would be something I don't think a
parent would want a child to go through.

4. It seems a change in the big time boosters ranking is coming or has already
happened. The Haslams have bigger problems than UT's next coach.

5. Peyton and Phil are heavily involved and I heard Doug Matthews also say
Charles Davis, who was Grudens roommate, as well may be playing a role.

6. The fact that a 300+ million dollar upgrade is planned tells me they have
big plans when it comes to ticket sales and other revenue.

7. ESPN is having money trouble and Monday Night Football may be cutting back
salaries.

8. Sports Media is all over the place and it appears Currie is running a tight
lipped ship and they are just not as connected as they once were or the
people that was giving the info out are scared for their jobs.

If you add all this up and add the info we get on here from the people that are in some ways involved it tells me the Gruden is going to be our next coach and the timing has been planned for a specific time and reason.

All we can do now is wait and cheer for OUR VOLS. The VFL's, past, present and future deserve that. As far as the VOL fans we expect the best we can get from the school and in the past several years we haven't always got that. I hope this time the powers that be come through because I believe we have earned that with our voices and our money.

GO BIG ORANGE......that will mean something special again....SOON

Thank you...should have stuck with my original assumption.

I'm not really trying to debunk anything. He told me he was there when he was in town several weeks ago but he didn't know anybody that saw him there last night.

VolNation if the news is bad.....

you might want to consider this.

Gruden is very sensitive about coaches and he is probably wanting to be respectful of the Vols coaches right now as they are doing their work during a very tough time. When the announcement is made it will rock UT and the college football world.

this explanation should make total sense.

I would add that most of these coaches are coaching for future jobs. So if they can put the team in the right direction, it will reflect back to them. Leaving no room for "the team was reinvigorated by the Gruden announcement" argument. It would be seen as the current staff's work and nothing else.

Ya except it doesn't. If this was a done deal, Gruden would have been released from his ESPN contract. There is 0% chance that story would have been kept under wraps to this point. Also, would be the first time in the history of UT sports that a hire was handled like you describe. "Misinformation campaigns", "Smokescreens".. whatever term you use to describe a coordinated effort by the AD to fool their fans is pure conjecture.

Agreed. But the narrative is... They are keeping a done deal under wraps for a reason.

The reason doesn't make any sense to me.

See that’s just the thing, it doesn’t have to make sense to you or any of us… All that matters is that Currie and Gruden do this on THEIR timetable. Consider that Jon Gruden himself is the one who is dictating the timeline, he told Tennessee they cannot announce it until a certain date for whatever reason, possibly because of his current employment status.

So sick of everyone being an insider.

There are, at most, 2-3 people here who have first hand information, and even that could be pushing it. A large portion of it is nothing more than blatant fabrications and 3rd-10th hand "knowledge."

Reminds me of the old skit, where a teacher whispers something to one student, and then has that same student whisper it to another student and so on, until it has traveled around the whole room. Then she asks the first and last students, what was my original message? Two entirely different stories will be told.

I have put more stock in my own cognizance and putting this thing together. Much more so than 99% of what's been posted on this very board.

No it's fine...I appreciate it. I didn't say anything last night cause I couldn't corroborate it anywhere. Wish I had stayed thebcourse. Sorry.

One thing is for certain, most of us Grudenites are actually serious about wanting to win again while the Gruden haters are just wanting someone who’s a step above better than Butch.

We’re the delusional ones? Nope. Not even close.

We want what’s best for UT. We want the best coaches available.

Confirmed: My wife is a lunatic and I have it from a good source that she is leaving me to track incoming air traffic with the people who use to run around looking for invisible pokeyman creatures.

I just had a buddy text me saying that Currie met with Campbell in Chicago. Neither of us would be termed "insiders" by any means. So can someone confirm where he got this from? I'm assuming Volquest, but could be wrong. I'll be honest, if it's not Gruden, Campbell is someone who would be towards the bottom of my list. So, if this is in fact truth, then that tells me a lot of the big names have said no...

I agree with this except I would say there are 2-3 less with first hand info.
