Can be really hard to tell apart the trolls, attention-seekers, and folks with real info. Just keep in mind that the first two groups are going to vastly outnumber the real deal.

After the last 2 hires from these clowns at UT , Do you really think that they can bring us Gruden without screwing it up ? I still don't think they are committed to winning any longer and they will end up bringing the fans another cheap hire. As much as we want Gruden, I have no faith that they can deliver it's fans a good coach.

It’s Happening

Multiple people in the know both here and on TOS have said that there would be a negativity campaign to buy the AD additional time, and to me that makes a lot of sense with what I was told. I was told that an announcement absolutely cannot be made before the LSU game, and even that is not ideal.

Hanging by this thread..........

I just had a buddy text me saying that Currie met with Campbell in Chicago. Neither of us would be termed "insiders" by any means. So can someone confirm where he got this from? I'm assuming Volquest, but could be wrong. I'll be honest, if it's not Gruden, Campbell is someone who would be towards the bottom of my list. So, if this is in fact truth, then that tells me a lot of the big names have said no...

Ask him where he got it from.

See that’s just the thing, it doesn’t have to make sense to you or any of us… All that matters is that Currie and Gruden do this on THEIR timetable. Consider that Jon Gruden himself is the one who is dictating the timeline, he told Tennessee they cannot announce it until a certain date for whatever reason, possibly because of his current employment status.

Orlando, are you aboard the Grude train?

I would add that most of these coaches are coaching for future jobs. So if they can put the team in the right direction, it will reflect back to them. Leaving no room for "the team was reinvigorated by the Gruden announcement" argument. It would be seen as the current staff's work and nothing else.
Excellent point.

One thing is for certain, most of us Grudenites are actually serious about wanting to win again while the Gruden haters are just wanting someone who’s a step above better than Butch.

We’re the delusional ones? Nope. Not even close.

We want what’s best for UT. We want the best coaches available.

I am not trolling. I had reason to believe that he was there last night for an event, before Hubbs confirmed it earlier this morning.

I will not troll. This time my practice has been to remain silent, and confirm good info when I see it. Otherwise I'm just enjoying the ride.

Sorry, Hubbs confirmed gruden was at CCC?

Kiffin trolling hard about wanting on Grudens STaff. And much as he is trolling I’d bet he would accept a OC or Qbc job in a heartbeat for Gruden

you might want to consider this.

Gruden is very sensitive about coaches and he is probably wanting to be respectful of the Vols coaches right now as they are doing their work during a very tough time. When the announcement is made it will rock UT and the college football world.

this explanation should make total sense.

That is my opinion as well. Further, he wants to respect the remainder of the season for those coaches he plans to pull from other schools to be a part of his new program. Why else would JG have said what he said on ESPN Seattle?

That's why I think Currie wanted to stretch Jones until the end of the regular season. I think his first plan was a very quick fire and hire similar to Texas. But, the fan base, and likely the boosters, just grew too impatient. He had to drop Jones to salvage attendance and support for this season.

I think it breaks "officially" the day of the Vandy game. The season will be in the can, but the recruits will still be on campus. Whether it is or is not JG, I expect to learn who will be on the sidelines next on the TG weekend.

No, just no.

Quit justifying your lunacy and gullibility by pretending it's because you care more about the program.

Most adults think clearly, others are easily influenced by propaganda.

It's really as simple as that.

I’ve enjoyed your posts Boro but maybe whoever passed this along should be removed from the list

Edit: sorry I saw you already addressed this

Well I'm really on the fence with the whole Gruden thing. On one hand, the whole mania with a lot of the fan base, I can't really understand it...other than the championship Bucs team he coached, which some say was a roster he essentially inherited from Tony Dungy (which is not entirely true, he did keep Dungy's defense mostly intact but completely retooled the offense with 9 new starters, so this claim is largely debunked), but apart from that championship, he has been a picture of mediocrity as a head coach with a career record of 95-81, didn't manage to win a single playoff game after that championship season, has never head-coached a snap at the college level and of course was famously fired by the Bucs in '08. Despite all that he is for some reason almost universally touted online as a brilliant football mind. All that said, a championship NFL coach I guess is always attractive to college programs. I have to say his head coaching career to this point does not merit his becoming the highest paid coach in the history of the sport (reference rumors that we are prepared to offer him 10 milliion+), but Currie seems to have bought into the fan base mania and the notion that Gruden could be Tennessee's Saban. All that said I think the name Gruden, sensibly or not, would carry a lot of clout and recruiting power at the collegiate level, especially in the now talent rich Southeast. I suppose part of his appeal for many fans are his past and current family connections to UT, which kind of give him a native son appeal. Also I can't help but wonder if his recent teasing of Vol fans amounts to a lot of trolling, amounts to simply using us, to try and boost his stock in ESPN contract negotiations or maybe even the NFL. If he doesn't come, then I imagine that's exactly what he's been doing, which may be standard in the business, but with his knowing how enamored with him many of our fans are, that would make me very upset, and I would never wish again for him to come, no matter what. He would essentially be Lane Kiffin to me at that point. Nonetheless if he shows up at a presser wearing orange and commits to Tennessee for the long haul, then I will stand behind and support him as I would any coach in the beginning. Ultimately I just want to see us win championships and pursue a program of integrity, and if he is the guy to make that happen, then I'm ready to welcome him with open arms. In any case, we should know soon...

Let's just let it play out and stop digging for info or being the first to break it We won't change the hire especially if it's already done, but we can at least respect the coaches that are still giving their all.

It's not just Currie and Gruden. ESPN is also a major stakeholder in this. They are a media company. If they were to release JG from his contract, it would be on the update bar as fast as the intern could type. "Misinformation campaigns", "Smokescreens".. these implied coordinated efforts by the AD to spread lies simply don't exist.

False alarm...somebody apparently posted an old Hubbs post from October, and my reading comprehension got the best of me. I thought the Hubbs post confirmed an unconfirmed text I got last night.

I'm an idiot.
