By my count the sure bets in CFB today are: Nick Saban, Urban Meyer, Dabo Swinney, Jimbo Fisher, and maybe James Franklin. Nick Saban isn't going anywhere, Urban Meyer isn't coming to UT, James Franklin is from Pennsylvania, Dabo Swinney isn't leaving Clemson for UT, and Jimbo Fisher has a large double digit in the millions buyout. Which of those 5 is coming to UT for any amount of money?

I don't know.

Do you realize the attention that any media figure reporting the words Tennessee and Gruden together arr getting? It certainly does serve a purpose. Its not like reporting many years ago where you lost credibility if you are wrong, in 6 months most people wont remember, they just remember hearing the name.

I'll member.

Remember that caveat about ESPN getting to break the story? I think sending the media goons (e.g. Hyams) out to put the cat back in the bag is an attempt to keep up that end of the bargain. What say you, Beave?

When Gruden doesn't come here, how are the Grudenites going to feel about him after he has been teasing and messing with all the fans while mentioning Knoxville, Rocky Top, "never say never to nothing," etc.? It's pretty clear he is having a good time laughing at everyone thinking he would actually go to UT.

No they are bad but they were horrible in the past which is a huge improvement. They did beat Missouri 35-3 which is a heck of a lot better than we can say with much worse talent. Not to mention they have had a ton of close losses, he has performed quite a turnaround in one year.

Oh, so more moral victories? What's the difference between bad and horrible? Close losses?

Missouri was also 1-5 at one point, and Purdue was the second game of the season. Teams change and gel, but bad ones suck, period! And Purdue is one of them.

It's amazing you're even vouching for Purdue and their coach.

They aren't going to tell Majors anything. Dude probably drinks a fifth a day. He'd be loose lips Larry by 7PM......

That plane is a private plane that left with the one yesterday but stopped in Atlanta last night. It’s getting ready to take off and head for Knoxville. It was with the others in Tampa..

I heard on the local sports last night that Steve Hargis,a sports writer for the Chattanooga Times Free Press, was initially saying that there was a 30% chance of getting Gruden. He seems to have some inside information. However, after communicating with his "supposed" inside source, the possibility of getting Gruden has now been raised to 50%! So, take that for what it is worth!

Fingers crossed on this working!

NOPE, take Dan Mullen elsewhere

Longtime lurker. Just a quick question...

In the beginning it was stated that PM and CPF were somewhat spearheading the search and in PM's case was lobbying for CJG all the way.

Why has there been no mention of PM's and CPF's thoughts on the process since the official firing of Botch?

Surely as well connected as some are on here, there is someone who has connections to one or both who might provide some insight.

I am just confused on why they are not mentioned.

People need to seriously stop stressing themselves over that Phillips and Jordan plane. It does not have any bearing on this coaching search. Plane tracking just needs to stop.

Jimbo Fisher’s buyout is not double digit millions. If he is fired they owe him roughly 40 million, if he leaves he owes the buyout of any of his assistants that are not retained

The other media figures "reporting" this stuff do not survive solely on covering Tennessee, Hyams does. Why would he risk it?

Why would he risk what? Gruden not coming to TN has been, is, and will continue to be the safest bet.

Again, I'm not one of the people who thinks Hyams is covering his head in the sand and saying "Gruden would never come". He has been explicitly told Gruden is not a serious candidate.

Can you believe that based on the evidence? The media reporting it. The fact Gruden hasn't denied it. The comments in Seattle yesterday.

Maybe you can. I don't know. I'm not going to act like Hyams is full of it because it's obvious. It's still very ambiguous. If I had to guess, Hyams is being fed misinformation. Sometimes it's better to have "friends" on the inside than "contacts", if you know what I mean.

Just me speculating. Certainly some bias as to what I hope is true, also.

Can we all agree that if Gruden gets hired that the entire staff at 990's credibility and insider knowledge will be lost? They have been so adamant that he will not be hired as HC and that their info has come from an insiders. It seems it would be difficult to believe anything that they claim in the future from "an insider source."
