Official Jon Gruden Thread 37

I have been lurking in the Volnation Gruden threads since 2012. I followed them daily and, like most on here, was heartbroken when it didn't come to fruition. This go around, and against my better judgement, I jumped back in for one more dip in the pool and started lurking, following every post with laughter and anticipation.

I decided to pop the cherry and post for the very first time in Thread 37. I have followed UT football my entire life, attended my first game in 1985 (6-6 Tie, Ga Tech), got my degree there (Class of '99 - those were some awesome fb years), and was even fortunate enough to marry a UT gal. UT has, and always will be, a huge part of my life.

These threads are just a constant reminder of how great and loyal our fan base truly is. As bad as it's been for the last decade or so, we are still here and we are still striving and yearning for Tennessee football to be great again. I, for one, am proud that our administration has hopefully realized that they have the greatest fans in the nation and are out there trying to land the best coach possible (JG) to lead our team back into relevance. I truly believe that they have come out of the corner swinging and are putting forth the effort and resources required to bring Gruden to the Hill. If that is the case, and he ultimately declines, then I can accept that as his decision and we'll move on.

But if they do succeed (and IMO, they're going to), I will see all of you in Neyland next fall and we will remind the world how GREAT it is to be a Tennessee Volunteer!!

Soon...

Why would he risk what? Gruden not coming to TN has been, is, and will continue to be the safest bet.

Again, I'm not one of the people who thinks Hyams is covering his head in the sand and saying "Gruden would never come". He has been explicitly told Gruden is not a serious candidate.

Can you believe that based on the evidence? The media reporting it. The fact Gruden hasn't denied it. The comments in Seattle yesterday.

Maybe you can. I don't know. I'm not going to act like Hyams is full of it because it's obvious. It's still very ambiguous. If I had to guess, Hyams is being fed misinformation. Sometimes it's better to have "friends" on the inside than "contacts", if you know what I mean.

Just me speculating. Certainly some bias as to what I hope is true, also.

Gruden said he has talked to noone.

Is there a game tomorrow? Can't remember. I have Gruden gumdrops bouncing around in my head.

I kid. Go Vols. Beat em Tigers!

Could it be that Currie is possibly interviewing assistant coaches given that JG is, or could be, preparing for MNF in Seattle? In other words, Gruden may be tied up and can't interview his prospective assistants. Thus, Currie flying around conducting those on JG's behalf. JMO

JG wouldnt interview assistants. Its about relationships, coaches know each other. And those spots are spots you fill with known products, not with an interview.

Also neither would be I interviewing because most likely these coaches are already coaching in some capacity and that’s a no no. Agents will converse, and personal calls will be made.

That's something like 8 million. Hyams says Fuente's 6 million dollar buyout is a bigger financial hurdle than UT is willing to risk.

First I’m 100% Gruden, just so we’re clear

I don’t want Jimbo however everyone continues the same BS about his buyout and I wanted to TRY and set it straight.

Why are you listening to Hyams?

Even Currie himself has said money WILL NOT be an issue

Here's the simple truth in it all. No coach is ever going to admit they were talking to anyone before they take the job. No AD is going to admit they whomever they hire wasn't their only choice.

At this point, I just want the ride to be over. I want it to end in acceptable way where all of us can get off reasonably happy with where the next ride will take us. Hopefully that's Gruden. If not, Kelly, Patterson etc. If it's google state I'm done.

It would take years of research to be able to accurately report it at this point. lol Early on I offered to write a book about this. I don't think I'd be willing to do that anymore. :p

Seriously, someone needs to capture this moment in Vol history in print. Which one of the many well spoken and literate leaders of this thread would be willing to step forward? I'd certainly pay for the story.

There are a couple of very solid wordsmiths on this thread that I would nominate.

How much? I've had a raging grude on for several weeks that needs tending to. Not to say I haven't been tending to it, but it would be nice for someone else to do the dirty work. 😁

I just find it hard to believe anyone with any credibility is posting on VN.

I'm with you but I do think it's possible that some people on here may have connections with boosters and the AD so I think the info should be taken with a grain of salt.
