Official Jon Gruden Thread II (merged)

"fairly" long time member, seldom poster. Up until Mississippi State I was 100% behind Dooley, but after that performance, with so much riding on the line I can't do it anymore. Gruden intrigues me and I think he'd be a homerun hire. I have a simple question and maybe it's been discussed somewhere in the other 1,000 pages b/w the last two Gruden threads so I apologize if this is a re-hash.

I am curious if this meeting (or meetings) by high powered boosters with Gruden would have ANY ties to the AD? In other words, would Hart have been approached initially to give his blessings for said boosters to engage talks or would this have been done with 0 involvement from the AD?

Go Vols!

Gruden took the test back in March right before signing his contract with Arkansas

The NFL has 56 NFL players on a team. A SEC team might have 10-15. It's a ridiculous comparison.

I don't want to argue this all day, and there would be no point in it......but for clarity I said "successfully coaching" in the SEC would be more difficult than coaching in the NFL. I never said that the SEC is more tough than the NFL. Your statement about having 10-15 potential NFL caliber players per team is a little optimistic but I get your meaning. That is in part what would make SEC or any collegiate coaching so difficult. You would be expected to deliver a "championship" caliber product with sometimes less than championship caliber tools to work with.

Dave Hart isn't handing out blessings to UT's biggest donors, they work together but ultimately their money is what's going to fuel the change.

Gotcha. Didn't read your post. Only read the post responding to it.

Same here.....

Hart always stays in contact with the big money boosters. There could have been a meeting without Hart to see if Gruden had a genuine interest in the job. If Gruden has real interest I'm sure the boosters informed him and he has to go to work on getting the details done.

No , you just said coaching college was harder than the NFL.

How do you put up with those crazy people, sir?

Miller lite lol

They all talked crap to me the last 2 years as the mighty Vols have not performed well.

I still wear my orange proudly and every where I go. But this year they have been quite. Lol.

I went in to a store the other day and was in my gear. Bought z new pistol and the guy said charge him extra for the Tennessee hat. I laughed and reminded him and his buddies of their ulm loss and they shut up.

Got a question for all the connected posters. By the way, that is not a put down, it's just a way to address all of you without naming each one. Question: Who is leading this charge for Gruden? Is there a committee, or group? Is Hart in the forefront, and coordinating this? Seem like there has to be someone in charge ofthe effort and not just a bunch of boosters all contacting Gruden individually.

Yes, that is my opinion. And if you want J. Gruden you should hope Mr. Gruden feels the same way else, he is going to jump ship ASAP to the NFL if he takes a job here.
