Official Jon Gruden Thread II (merged)

Let's get something straight, a lot of posters were in on the Gruden/UT story WAAAAAAAAAY before I posted the numbers. I was skeptical at first, but I began to hear things after the loss to MSU. On Monday, I was told the initial offer of 6-years, $31.5M had been extended. That's really the only thing I've brought to this thread. I really don't think I should get any credit for anything.

and it is still the Browns

In spite of the Browns horrible mismanagement and horrible record, they have one of the most valuable franchises in the NFL (or all of sports for that matter. They did just get bought for a billion dollars.

Their fan base is ravenous.

Can't give you what I don't have.

But for the record, you're one of the guys that ran around shouting everyone down when they said Dooley was done or should be done, right? Let's watch and see which claim plays out, then we'll talk.

Nah, I only argued a few points. I haven't really said anything about Dooleys job status since around Florida game. I may be a supporter, but I'm not an idiot.

I may be mistaken, but I think my initial stance was 7-5 gave him a 50 pct chance. Which is not exactly going out on a limb.

One day Jay, you will learn to take me the right way. A sarcastic SOB who is not really serious.

How long did it take Saban to turn Bama around?

How long did it take Muschamp to get Florida back on track?

The right coach changes EVERYTHING.

In Muschamp's case, it was also finding the right coordinators. After Weis left for Kansas, they look like a different football team. If Gruden comes, the OC and DC will be just as important.

They'll eat Gruden's face off it he doesn't succeed.

We'll love Gruden unconditionally after the Dooley debacle. Or at least until his contract expires after not living up to it. Doubt we have to worry about that though.

I think Gruden would kill it. He'd be a superstar here.

it is win/win even if we lose! HA! The level of national exposure will be tremendous. We will have entered a new realm.

The two determining factors will be money (obviously) and power. He would have a lot of control at UT that he would not have with the Brownies. I dont know about the man's ego, but it could work in our favor.

You're right and you're not.

The Yankees beg to differ

I trust dto, jay, and ov because everything they have said is happening. My one concern is on TSR they are still saying he can choose UT or the browns, the Haslams don't care whicha.

The 8 yr 50 mil just sounds like more of an NFL contract to me.

Sorry, I left boro out.

The Cleveland rumors are just smoke. I tend to believe what Doc has posted. My guys are tight-lipped but upbeat right now.

I have moved the needle to 95%.

And DTO is right, I have a stinky finger.

No need to think he will kill it-he will. If this happens it will be TN and AL playing twice a year for quite a while. He will not fail at Tennessee.

All of this misses the point though. If he wanted to coach for the Browns, he would be coaching for the Browns right now.

Well, I've gotten nothing today. Very unfortunate I know.

I think the next real news to come out will be Dooleys departure after the SC game. Thats when I look for the leaks and information to spring back up lol. So quiet right now, the quiet before the storm so to speak.

One guy that was talking to me a lot was in my place of business this morning and all he would do is look at the floor and shake his head when football came up. He is on the UT caching staff of another sport. He has been pretty open about talking about it in the past, but obviously someone has put the fear of god in them about talking.

Gruden is camping
