Official Jon Gruden Thread II (merged)

Let's get something straight, a lot of posters were in on the Gruden/UT story WAAAAAAAAAY before I posted the numbers. I was skeptical at first, but I began to hear things after the loss to MSU. On Monday, I was told the initial offer of 6-years, $31.5M had been extended. That's really the only thing I've brought to this thread. I really don't think I should get any credit for anything.

One big donor who has a field named after him and an NFL team to play real fantasy football with. He started the ball rolling big time after MSU.

I have been told the 8-year, $50M is inaccurate. The compensation could reach in excess of $6M annually but that would include Gruden reaching the incentive levels (BCS Game, NC Game).

The Cleveland rumors are just smoke. I tend to believe what Doc has posted. My guys are tight-lipped but upbeat right now.

I have moved the needle to 95%.

And DTO is right, I have a stinky finger.

I know nothing, but if the 8/50 deal is real, you would have to think that there are several "riders" attached to it. I don't see Hart or Gruden getting married for that long without some provisions allowing for a peaceful dissolution if either party is not capable of holding up their end of the bargain.

LOVE IT Boro! Not the stinky finger part...but the time is now for Gruden more power than he would ever have in the NFL, he is still a young man and we are a sleeping giant. Pull the trigger now!

All of this misses the point though. If he wanted to coach for the Browns, he would be coaching for the Browns right now.

I beg to differ. Randy Learner was a horrible owner. There is no way Gruden would have coached for a guy who didnt give two sh*ts for the Browns.

Haslam is a whole different animal for Cleveland now.

So Boro, you think that Docvol s numbers are correct? That seems to be an NFL salary as opposed to a college salary.

I will be amazed if that figure verifies as a base salary, tifwiw. More possible it is a "ceiling" type figure assuming every bonus and incentive is attained. Not questioning a contract and official offer at all, just hard to imagine that high of a "base salary".

I think the next real news to come out will be Dooleys departure after the SC game. Thats when I look for the leaks and information to spring back up lol. So quiet right now, the quiet before the storm so to speak.

One guy that was talking to me a lot was in my place of business this morning and all he would do is look at the floor and shake his head when football came up. He is on the UT caching staff of another sport. He has been pretty open about talking about it in the past, but obviously someone has put the fear of god in them about talking.

Just out of curiosity what type of work are you in? (Generally). If you don't mind

That would be more in line with most expectations. I think everyone knew it would take pretty much double DD money to get a big name here. If we can get the BIGGEST out there, starting at $5 mil and moving towards $6 mil with incentives sounds like a bargain.

I run a business that has regular dealings with a lot of the members of the athletic department and have since CPF was winning football games. Some of those business relationships have become friendships over the years. That's about all I will say except I lost a lot of my best contacts when Hart cleaned house in the department, but several remain.

Didn't say that. I said I agree that the deal may done based on the reaction of those I've talked to. There are many different ways to structure a deal and shuffle the numbers around though. Its possible....and honestly somebody is going to pay that kind of salary soon. Might as well be us

Anyone have any rough numbers how much money a typical "sellout" at Neyland brings in? Just wondering how much a packed house for an entire season would offset the salaries.
