I think we need to just calm down for a while, everything is going to be ok. College boosters and supporters work under a vail of secreacy all the time its not unusual. I for one appreciate the info that has been able to be put out here. If there is too much noise beening raised the info will stop flowing. Wait a few weeks til after the SC game. Some of our media like Ainge will probably give up more info then and probably confirm some of what we are hearing now. HEck even Basilio may be able to tell us more.
The more noise we make, the more it hurts our chances of getting accurate info. Trust those that have shared solid info so far and temper our enthusiasm for a while.

...and don't worry,be happy!:)

He travels all the time for ESPN. At least he'd be home with his family.

By that logic, he wouldn't take another NFL gig either.

My question was NOT about traveling or being away. I'm wondering if being close to his in-laws is attractive or a deterrent. Anyone know about that relationship?

I agree. Props go to our connected posters. People have posted here that don't believe what's being said, it BS, or just plain saying Gruden wont come here. To me, they're just trying to get these members to divulge their sources, with a challenge so to speak. Glad our connections hasn't fell for that. Whatever happens, happens.

Agree, I don't want to risk losing the info that these folks are able to bring us. I am sure they will continue to give us updates over the next few weeks.

He declined an initial offer within the last 48hrs....that is 100% true and isnt generated by any media crap that you are suggesting.

I understand the nature of a message board is different than that of a media outlet, but some of this stuff is just silly:

- As unlikely as it is, Dooley could win out and that would save his job. No one has been offered his job yet.
- It's October, and we are litterally in the middle of the college and NFL seasons. What prospective coach is going to seriously discuss job openings right now? (Note the word, seriously).

I don't dispute the possibilty that discussions are being had behind the scenes with influential people, but the idea that anything has or has not been decided, it's way too early.

I think you over-estimate the conections of some of these posters.

I mean, when it was a done deal that Randy Shannon was the next DC, what hapened? Is his plane still circling Knoxville waiting for permission to land?

I wouldn't see him keeping as many assistants as you have mentioned. Maybe Jay Graham and that's it. Not sure about Jay Gruden either. I think he's in a good position to soon land a head coaching position somewhere in the near future.

i didnt type it, i copy and pasted the story off a website from september, but yeah, those are a lot of assistants to keep

Read what I am saying...........there was an initial informal offer to Gruden, one that wasnt made directly from the AD but indirectly and not with AD dollars. That initial offer was declined within the last 48hrs. That is the last I have been told. Believe whatever you wish and be as skeptical as you want. I can only say what I have been told and what I believe to be correct.

You might want to actually know how very close the Shannon deal was to being done......11th hour close.

OK, but that's my point. So Haslam's secretary called Gruden's secretary and said "Would you be interested in coaching UT next year for $5mil a year?" And Gruden's secretary said "sorry, but he's not discussing coaching jobs at the moment."

That's probably about as close to reality as this is. I'm not saying your information is wrong, I'm saying it's irrelevant at this point.
