Who cares if it wasn't his team, hell , he executed and won a damn Super Bowl

^^^This.

I certainly appreciate what PF did at UT in the 90s, but there is a reason Fulmer is not currently coaching. In the 90s it was Fulmer and Spurrier dominating the SEC, Spurrier with recruting and coaching, Fulmer with recruiting and solid coordinators. The SEC is filled with very good coaches now. If PF were to come back he would be ranked either no better than 11th, and maybe as low as 14th, depending on who Arkie and UK hire, and if Auburn gets rid of Chizik.

If nothing else, Fulmer proved, in his waning years, that he doesn't have what it takes to compete against the likes of Saban, Miles, Meyer, Richt, or even a resurgent Spurrier at SC. I seriously doubt that Phil would be able to keep pace with even Franklin or Muschamp, not to mention the newcomers to the conference. After what we've gone through in the post-Fulmer years, we don't need that sort of history repeating itself. I want a coach whose work Vol fans will love and our SEC opponents will hate, not vice versa.

Both coaches won a single championship as a head coach. After Gruden won his (with a team someone else built for him), he went 45-53 over the next seven years, and got canned.
After Fulmer won his (with a team he built himself), he went 85-41 over the next 10 years, and got canned for it.

Just read where some are wanting Fulmer back and make Tee Martin o/c.

Check your home for lead paint immediately.

The only thing that would cause more outrage than Fulmer coming back would be if Kiffin came back.

Stop the Fulmer crap, it's not happening.

I am just curious about how this would work and would like some input please...

Let's say we hire Gruden.

Week 16 MNF is December 22, 2012. If Gruden has to finish with MNF before he can be announced, what does this do to recruiting?

If National Signing day is February 6th This only gives him 45 days to talk with recruits. (this is not including dead periods)

Dooley only had a few days to get recruits together for his first class and did a decent job.

It seems like everyday would be important, and I am just wanting to see how quickly everyone thinks Gruden could pull a class together. What type of class would we end up with? Would we have the same kind of class that we have now? Would we have a lot of potential to steal commits?

I am thinking that his name alone would get him in the door and make recruiting alot easier than if he was joe schmoe. I believe that once he is announced, the rest will take care of itself.

I think it will be easier for Gruden with less time than any other coach outside of the SEC, name recognition and NFL ties go a long way in recruiting a lot of these kids. Academics and facilities we have already.

UTs recruiting budget would help out a lot with this. He would have the funds to be on the road a lot of the time, along with his assistants. Not going to a bowl should help with this too, because current staff members with the potential to stay hired won't be game prepping or going to practice. It wouldn't be his best class, but it has potential.

All of this is of course just my opinion, and could be completely false.

You realize that was in the NFL and not NCAA correct?? And you also realize that in the NFL coaches don't recruit players? General Managers draft and sign free agents. I'm sure Tony Dungy had some say in team personnel but it wasn't "his" players or "his" team. I'm sick of seeing this argument.

Sorry if the truth makes you sick.
