Aren't Jay Graham and another coach working the recruiting trail currently? It might make one wonder if Gruden has already got some staff picked out and running scouting for him.

Doesnt seem terribly far away like a couple of years ago, and I think with better coaching it would look even better. Defense is slow.

It did not seem like Dooley was going to get us over the hump in recruiting though. Just hanging in that middle pack area.

I really don't think it will be a problem.

There's been a lot of kids who were just waiting on Tennessee to win.

Get a guy like Gruden, and the pieces will be there.

Keeping a coach like Graham could help keep the class together we already have. Gruden's name alone would draw recruits. I see a top 10-12 class with him this year. After that top 5-7 every single year. Dude would absolutely kill it. And if he brought Morris with him look out. He and Gruden are two charismatic dudes who would knock it out of the park. 5* QBs, stud interior lineman on both sides of the ball. Things will get flat out crazy with Gruden here.

I've got to say, the insiders on the Coaching Forum have totally convinced me that unless Gruden eats a baby on the final MNF, he is going to be the new Tennessee HFC.

I'm surprised more haven't become Grudenites.

I'm a guy who wanted to rehire Fulmer after the Kiffin fiasco (and fire Hambone immediately), but I think Gruden would be an absolutely home run hire, and probably the only sure thing we could hire.

Would anyone actually be disappointed if Gruden is the next coach at Tennessee?

Gruden... soon.

His recruiting had been slipping every year.. You have to get some results on the field when you're Derek Dooley to get kids to buy in..

Why do people want Gruden? What about his coaching style do people like? I was a season ticket holder for the Bucs during the Gruden years and some of his teams were difficult to watch. I'm not saying he would be a bad hire, but why do people want him?

I would be frustrated and disappointed if the next coach is not announced until January. If Gruden is selected, I would have no problem if he continued to spend Sun/Mon with the NFL until then but I want a coach to build a staff and work on recruiting at the same time.

I just dont see how you can be so convinced that gruden is our next coach. I want him too, but it really seems like a long shot to me

There will always be some group of people who will be disappointed no matter what. There are people who are still upset Dooley was fired, after all. That said, the outpouring of joy throughout Vol fandom if Gruden were hired would be massive and unprecedented.

One huge reason: PR. We need his name to help bolster our image nationally. Offensively he has been studying oregons offense alot and used it as reference in his coaching clinics so I like that. And his enthusiasm for the game.

I think he is one of the few coaches who could go toe-to-toe against Saban in recruiting. He would easily be a tremendous national recruiter, something Tennessee needs. Make in-roads into FL and GA.

Recruiting, make no mistake, is more than half the battle.

I think he is clearly an above average coach too.

The rest of the SEC gone be scurred!

disappointed at getting him? No. Will we be disappointed with the results from him? probably. Why? because we will not win the SEC or BCSNC every year. That seems to be where the bar is currently set per popular sentiment on VN.
