Here is the most probable chain of events as I see it.

1. Infleuntial financial booster(S) contact Hart and express that they find the progress of the football team unacceptable and that if a coaching change does not happen at the end of the season if not sooner that they have decided that they will start to pull their checkbooks.

2. Hart states that he will confront (even though he almost assuredly already has) Coach Dooley of their position and that anything less than winning out will most likely result in his contract being bought out. Of course Dooley undestands the gravity of his predicament.

3. Hart knows if the Volunteers were to lose any of the remaining games it would be a certain and justified death blow considering that UT will most likely be favored in all 4 contests and therefore must immediately start feeling out the pulse of whatever candidates that the program might pursue.

4. Hart starts making contact with people. Hart is told by whatever prospect that he is under contract and furthermore would not consider discussing it while a coach is currently in place but nevertheless contact has been made.

5. Hart assures booster(s) that he is in constant review of the daily operations of the football team but is limited as to any further action upon the current coaching staff at which point he might feel at the limit of his duties. The booster(s) may have offered to help in recruiting another coach when I would guess that Hart might state that he'd take no part in that type of development.

6. Additional contact is made by the booster(s) / supporter(s) and Hart is updated but the plan would remain to review the positions after each game and move accordingly.

7. NOW the ball is mostly in Dooley's court. If we suffer a loss then a move can be made justifiably without indecision and the full court press can be made on the coaching prospect. The prospect could fully entertain proposals and even announce a decision without conflict of ethics, etc. Even complete his season while moving some focus towards recruiting and building a staff. If negotiations came to a standstill, there would still be time to complete a search even before season's end without creating chaos before the remaining games or to the existing recruiting class.

To terminate Dooley now before what is obviously considered an easier final 4 games would be viewed as premature, reckless and if the next coach in place were to flounder in any way would make the UT department of athletics seem unsure and misguided as well.

I'd be happier than a possum on top of a pile of deer guts if we get Gruden but I'm guessing if if we win all 4 remianing games that Dooley keeps his job.

Sidenote - I hate it but I think we'll lose one at which point losing a second would be even that much more porbable. We win all 4 or lose maybe 2.

I think Vandy will be a slight favorite in Nashville. I may be wrong.
