Here is the most probable chain of events as I see it.
1. Infleuntial financial booster(S) contact Hart and express that they find the progress of the football team unacceptable and that if a coaching change does not happen at the end of the season if not sooner that they have decided that they will start to pull their checkbooks.
2. Hart states that he will confront (even though he almost assuredly already has) Coach Dooley of their position and that anything less than winning out will most likely result in his contract being bought out. Of course Dooley undestands the gravity of his predicament.
3. Hart knows if the Volunteers were to lose any of the remaining games it would be a certain and justified death blow considering that UT will most likely be favored in all 4 contests and therefore must immediately start feeling out the pulse of whatever candidates that the program might pursue.
4. Hart starts making contact with people. Hart is told by whatever prospect that he is under contract and furthermore would not consider discussing it while a coach is currently in place but nevertheless contact has been made.
5. Hart assures booster(s) that he is in constant review of the daily operations of the football team but is limited as to any further action upon the current coaching staff at which point he might feel at the limit of his duties. The booster(s) may have offered to help in recruiting another coach when I would guess that Hart might state that he'd take no part in that type of development.
6. Additional contact is made by the booster(s) / supporter(s) and Hart is updated but the plan would remain to review the positions after each game and move accordingly.
7. NOW the ball is mostly in Dooley's court. If we suffer a loss then a move can be made justifiably without indecision and the full court press can be made on the coaching prospect. The prospect could fully entertain proposals and even announce a decision without conflict of ethics, etc. Even complete his season while moving some focus towards recruiting and building a staff. If negotiations came to a standstill, there would still be time to complete a search even before season's end without creating chaos before the remaining games or to the existing recruiting class.
To terminate Dooley now before what is obviously considered an easier final 4 games would be viewed as premature, reckless and if the next coach in place were to flounder in any way would make the UT department of athletics seem unsure and misguided as well.
I'd be happier than a possum on top of a pile of deer guts if we get Gruden but I'm guessing if if we win all 4 remianing games that Dooley keeps his job.
Sidenote - I hate it but I think we'll lose one at which point losing a second would be even that much more porbable. We win all 4 or lose maybe 2.

I just got done listening to the Gruden interview on the Sports Animal back in the spring. Yes, I know I'm late to the party. But man oh man, this guy has Tennessee written all over him. You can hear it in his voice that he loves Tennessee! The question that gets me is when he was asked if he would return to coaching and he said "It needs to perfect for my family". I got all giddy listening to the interview.
Welcome to VolNation fishing Vol and great post! :wavey:It's finally Friday. Long ours at work didn't allow me time to got on the computor all week. So I read 50 k posts on mobile and now I thought I would intro myself to VN. First: I am all for Gruden and SOON. But here is my take on the whole thing. I argued for Dooley's situation for a long time: he started with nothing, sanction threats and injuries in year 2/1, and staff defection for 3/2. So I reasoned that these things hurt recruiting and there was not enough talent depth for him or any coach to win against the SEC teams. Two weeks ago I began to tell family and friends that there was no way UT could keep Dooley because the fans did not support these opinions and blamed it all on Dooley. Then I came to VN and opened the Gruden thread......part of me still sees where we were 3 years ago, but one would have to be brain dead to not take Gruden. I believe that Dooley has to go, no matter what anyones feelings are for him, at this point. At first I thought that the Gruden talk was just forum BS, but then I talked to someone at work that is friends with a former players brother ( I know ), but he told me that the Gruden deal was a legitimate possibility. I also talked to someone else that knows a old money booster ( I know ) that is in Dooley's corner. So I am all Gruden all the time, but I would like for all fans to thand DD for being the only "coach" in the contry that would come here and show some class when he is fired. I know that it took the verbal outcry to make this change happen, but when the deal is made official, it would be a classy fan base that thanks him and says good by ( not ridence ). Then we can all go nuts for chucky and 15 years of domination. JMO. Hello VN
