Gruden, Patterson, Petersen... those would be the top 3 hires imo.

Next three... Mora, Fitzgerald, Mullen.

Obviously I would take Sean Payton and Pete Carroll but Sean Payton will find another NFL job and Pete Carroll is only a possibility if he gets fired. I doubt he will be but after going 7-9 his first two seasons, he's only sitting at 4-4. It's possible he could be fired with a third straight losing season.

Would love to have Carroll but the owner really likes him and he makes over $7 million per. Bigger pipe dream than Gruden imo.

I have a good gif to upload, but I cant do it at work. Anyone want to load it for me? I will send it to you.

It's a bigger pipe dream because he's currently coaching in the NFL but I'm not convinced he couldn't be fired. He shouldn't even have a playoff win. How long will an owner put up with finishing below .500? His win over the Saints was nice but I would have to think the owner has serious doubts about a coach even making the playoffs if he finishes three seasons with a losing a record. Not saying Carroll will finish with a losing record but 7-9, 7-9 and 4-4... most coaches would be teetering on getting fired given the standards pro teams have.

If Gruden says no my next call would be to Eric Mangini. Household name and smart guy who could energize the fan base and challenge Saban.

Don't think any coach is unfireable. They don't call it the NFL(Not for long) for nothin.

If they were good friends like some on here want to believe, why did Cut not go after Chavis for DC at Duke?

Cut was the HC in 2008, Chavis last year on staff.

Chavis would never return to UT to work under Cut

This all you got as evidence they hate each other???

Why on earth would JC go to duke when he had a job at Tenn. Terrible jump here if that's all the info you have????

Yeah.

I agree it's a pipe dream as long as he's coaching the Seahawks but if he gets fired... unless he wants to retire or take a year off, Tennessee is a better school than most to coach football at.

If he gets fired though, watch USC fire Lane and hire Carroll back. lol

Tony Basilio's coaching list is

The Short List:

Now let’s talk about the coaches in play, contrary to what some people are saying that Gruden isn't coming, he's still on the table and hasn't told anyone that he's not going to take the job.

While i don't think it’s 50/50 by any stretch of the imagination, I’m told there's still a chance, I’d put it in the 20% neighborhood.

Dan Mullen, Charlie Strong and Bob Petrino are on that short list.

i wouldnt call it a consensus but a growing possibility. seems that internal power struggles within the university are pushing away Grudens interest.

This! How will we get any HR hire until the inner workings of UT is fixed? Ask yourself if you were a big time coach on everyone's wish list, would you come to UT as it is now? Not being a negavol just stating the current situation.

Honestly would not surprise me at all.

I think the powers that be realize that they have created this huge powder keg. Now they are "working like heck" to pour water on any spark that might set it off.
