I mean, why don't we just put a call in to Bill Belichick for that matter?

Ok...

I said I would obviously take them but that Payton would stay in the NFL(not convinced it will be the Saints though) and Pete Carroll is only a possibility if he's fired. You don't have to be rude about it. I did mention 6 coaches before saying I don't think they're a possibility.

And yeah, I do think Carroll could be fired. He might finish below .500 for a third straight season.

The conversation here today proves to me we BETTER get Gruden or else.

I've heard that argument.....it is a very dangerous one. I've been privy to most of the Gruden info from all sides. I have never bought into the theory that his not coming=somebody f'd up. There are too many variables (on Gruden's side) for me to reach that conclusion.

Hey, there are other guys that can be successful here but we all know this program needs a guy that can send shockwaves thru our fanbase and the nation. 10,000 of empty seats. Would Mullen's get this fanbase excited? Petrino would divide it all over again. Strong might be the best bet to go to if Gruden doesn't work.

Do you think Fridays meeting will have an affect on Gruden?

If Gruden says no (which hasn't happened yet) and the money is really there, then Stoops better be our first call. Strong has always been #3 on my list.

Petrino...please no...but I've consistently heard he is on the big board.

I would take Mullen over Strong merely because he knows what it is like to rebuild a program in the SEC.

I agree that just because we don't get him doesn't mean someone messed up but we are where Alabama was before Saban hire. We need to prove now we can get our guy.

Fyp for accuracy.

HAHA! Thanks Doyle! I will stick to the my post though. tens of thousands of empty seats in Neyland. The conference is tougher than it has ever been. We need a big time hire. Dooley is done. That I don't have any worries about.

Honestly, I've heard the deal is hanging on by a string. I'm in the camp that believes there may be too many NFL options for Gruden next year. San Diego...Philly...Dallas...places he could win with what he has.

I'm not trying to be a debbie downer, I just think these monumental changes:
1. Changing the AD/admin culture
2. Fundamentally changing your philosophy on coaches pay
3. Dealing with a lame duck head coach in the process

are hard to do overnight. If the first two changes are made, even without Gruden, UT fans will be big winners in the end.

...and that is why I think Gruden is still a real possibility. I think Petrino is a red herring. Don't believe the powers that be are even considering him. No way after where this program has been with disasters like we have had that these guys would trust a guy like that with this program now.

Don't post much. I've been watching this thread since JGII thread.
I feel Gruden is a done deal (No inside info just what I think)
I think they are using the possibility of losing him or already losing him to get the votes they need at the BOT. The powers that be can use this as leverage over Cheek and his supporters to get what they want.
All of this is pure speculation on my part. I have no inside info at all.

Thanks also to those that do share what they hear.

I agree with you on all points. I think if Gruden comes, it will be for the love of UT. Like you said. If he just wants back in the game and the money. NFL will be wide open

Realistic post

No way do I want strong. Can't understand once again up and comer, diamond in the rough, winner of close tough games in big east and against substandard talent. He**, dooley could win close games with that schedule and I certainly don't want him either.

Lex, I couldn't agree with you more. Stoops might be had with the right financial package for reasons we have discussed before.

How would you handicap the Gruden odds at this point? Money talks and BS walks. I would think that he can be had but it is going to take significant cash to do it.

I think the possibility of Gruden coaching under Jerry Jones are two fold, 0 and none.

I also do not buy the fact that this is a destination job IF Gruden comes. He is too young. We will be on pins and needles every off season every time there is an NFL opening.

Did bama go through similar issues with Saban as far as ad's and chancellors?

Was there this much crap at the top of their program to get Saban?
