Look, I am only speculating on Ainge based upon what I do know. I can only guess he is either overplaying his denial, or he's been asked to enforce the view that Gruden is not coming publicly. Or if its fits your view he's being honest, and Gruden is not coming.
I have reason to believe the latter to be inaccurate.
I hope you're right, I do. I will hold out hope. But I don't believe the world is all covert operations and double secret probation and misinformation and such.
I maintain that reality is always much more mundane than fantasy.
We're having a Jon Gruden fantasy in a Derek Dooley world.
But he didnt shut his mouth. Like the poster said, he reported over and over that Gruden was off the table.

Derek it is over, time to move forward.
I just think he's been told to shut the talk of Gruden to Tennessee down in which now he covers his end by saying Gruden is out. Remember he just said he has sources that are 5 of the top 15 boosters. Last week or the week before he was 100% Gruden, i think he let it out too quick and they slapped his hand and put him on noticeBut he didnt shut his mouth. Like the poster said, he reported over and over that Gruden was off the table.
I am going to go with Ainge has bad info and believe JG is coming. I wasn't trying to call you out Boro, I believe everything you have said. Its just the Ainge "smoke screen" I am having trouble with.
I love the Gruden non-believers. They will always proclaim - There is absolutely no way Gruden is coming here. Anyone who believes this is an idiot.
And they always follow up with - I hope that I am wrong or I will gladly eat crow.
Shows that they actually believe it as well
The best way to shut his mouth on the subject is to deflect it by saying he is not coming and to discuss other possible coaches.
If you ever met Ainge there is a strong chance you would not value his perspective on things so highly when he says Gruden isn't coming.
With regards to Dave Hart doing what he wants here...............
All this talk about big money having nothing to do with this is ludicrous. Harts job is on the line with this next hire, especially if he goes "rogue" with the decision. I understand him to be hard headed and that's to be expected for someone in his position, BUT with that said, he's not an idiot.
If he concedes this next hire to the big money guys (and common sense tells me this is more probable than possible) then he has protected his job a lot better than going on his own to hire someone like Smart and/or Strong. Not to mention he'd look like an absolute hero in the process.
This next hire will be a homerun. UT football is at a crossroads here. This talk about Smart or Strong is only a smokescreen if you can't see through the smoke. Just be patient and watch this unfold all. Go Vols!
