IMO this is what is happening right now. Gruden has accepted offer and because the timing is not right due to Monday Night Football the boosters decided to spread rumors of different coaches to media(hint Ainge and Tony same source)so Gruden hype does not get out of control. Supposedly coaching search going on then BOOM Jon Gruden becomes next head coach.

If UT knows for a fact who the next coach is, there is no clear reason to keep Dooley on the sidelines. With or without Dooley UT is likely to lose at Vandy. No bowl game. They dont have to announce who the new coach is, they just have to know who he is.

Dooley remaining in my mind means that the coaching search has now begun in earnest, which (I believe) means Gruden is no lock at all and UT has no clue who they will convince to come here.

this is a very valid point but i do disagree with the first part. if they fire Dooley officially, they either have to name the successor or start a fake coaching search. to sit idle will bring havoc to the masses.

I don't think Hart or the ad give a crap about rumors or what's going on with fans right now.. They're on the phones trying to find the best for for UT.. That's all they care about right now.. Well, that and getting to a bowl game.

What if Gruden has accepted the job and wants it to remain on the down low until closer to his announcement and to circumvent the media circus around the ensuing, supposed coaching search. Also, according to Gman, there are some legal details still being worked out. Makes since to me not to announce until most/all details are resolved.

My point, though, was that if UT knows they are getting Gruden, they dont have to announce it to the public until later, but they can immediately fire Dooley now.

I am not going to disagree with you here. It certainly does sound like a FF coaching staff. But let me say this............ Do you think the big money that is turning the wheels is going to hire Smart or Strong and a bleh coaching staff? Do you think if Gruden comes, and has been contacting people as has been speculated..........he's contacting Joe Blo and the misfits to come with him?

When my gut told me Gruden, it told me to think BIG and to think about those with UT ties across the board for who he brings with him.

From the hours of 6am to 3pm I'm at Gibson (secretly doing this kind of work) then from 4 till 12am I'm doing this full time. My wife hates it.
