Official Jon Gruden Thread VI

For the sake of discussion what if there has been a concerted effort to chill the Gruden talk regardless of whether he is still on the hook or not. What if this has been from the AD...and possibly both parties involved.

What if Gruden doesn't want it to look like he was the reason Dooley is let go? Just another angle.

Gruden info got out early and spread like wildfire.

I have heard the entire time the manner in which Dooleys termination is handled is super important to Gruden so that makes a lot of sense too.

I am sitting near people at the Bball game tonight that I am sure it will be talked about. Hopefully the guy that was involved in the drafting of the MOU that, based on what he said a couple weeks later, had been returned and refused will be there. Would be amazed if he wasnt. He is very involved and maybe he is trying to divert. It would make sense.

Anyone else going tonight?

This will pass, the recommendation is "Approval" and the President strongly supports it. I don't see how this would not pass today.

I have always believed this was an issue that would need to be worked out.

This would be Dooley's excuse to feel better about himself when he is canned.

The fact is that Dooley will be let go because he can't coach, and hasn't surrounded himself with enough coaches that can.

This probably seems like nitpicking, or a weird issue to have, but I always have an issue with guys who cant make much eye contact. I noticed with Kiffin that he would oftn look down while speaking, or look away. Petrino has done that too. Not saying it means anything really, it can just appear disingenuous to some. I stress the word appears.

You're picking up on body language, and yes, it means a lot.

There is no coaching vacancy at UT so there is no reason for Hart or Gruden to comment about it.

Is Hart gauging interest from other coaches in case the job becomes available? I'd say yes.

If the job opens, if Gruden is hired and if other coaches have been gauged then nothing looks like it was done with a sitting HC, because rumors are just that, rumors. Plausible deniability from all involved.

Hart gets public credit for Gruden, the boosters are happy and the fanbase is happy.

Every time an MOU is signed a 5* gets its TN wings!

By the way, here's Vice Chancellor Scott Rabenold, whom UT Athletics would be reporting to now instead of Jimmy Cheeks . He's on the left. Regal Cinemas President Greg Dunn on the right. Caption for this photo from Knoxnews actually says they are checking out latest news on UT football

That is one of the most consistent themes in the info I've gotten from all sides.

All I can say at this point...is that I'm still hearing that Gruden may still be contacting people for a possible UT staff. I can't guarantee it, but I have heard it.

Not discounting this theory, but again for the sake of discussion, wouldn't firing Dooley and then hiring Gruden in very short order give exactly that impression? Wouldn't separating the firing and hiring as far apart as possible be more advantageous towards that viewpoint? Not trying to flame, just asking.

And let's look at this rationally... Maybe upgrade from CDD is all we need. We are a defense away from a 1-loss-year this year. The defense is making it look like we are a lot worse than we are.

Maybe we don't NEED a homerun hire, but just a GOOD coach to pull all the pieces together and get us back to where we are supposed to be.

(Disclaimer: The above point was in no way a CDD apology. Nor was it ant-Gruden.)

Good post, Crush. With an upgrade over CDD and a good DC we'd be in the mix for the championship now.

This is exactly the reason that the MSU game was a benchmark. I don't think it is flaming, and is reasonable discussion point in relationship to the theory.

In that scenario, the sooner Dooley is gone the better.

On the other hand, as soon as Dooley is let go, it unleashes a poop storm of media, and everybody including Gruden has to start answering questions.

Maybe wanting to finish MNF has something to do with it too
