If we are gonna bring Gruden in I think its silly to hamstring him with a cut rate staff out of the blocks. Maybe in year 3 or so we can start pulling coaches from the assistant ranks for coordinator positions, but not in the beginning.

I really really love football

Just lost my train of thought. Gruden doesn't seem that important. Wait. I am okay.

Excellent post Tim

If Morris makes 1.3 at Clemson and we offer 1.5 then I don't think he will leave. Clemson is not
going to let him go.

Cut rate hell no, but 1.5m each? I doubt the numbers are correct. If they are in fact his demands, I doubt we see him here.

Anyway, I want to win and would love to see Gruden. For now I choose to believe the numbers are bull****.

For what it is worth, I think Gruden will be worth it. I don't think he needs 1.5m assistants to win, and I don't want to believe he would be unwilling to come here if he can't get that. He shouldn't need that kind of money to put together a staff that can win. Hell Saban would come if we just didn't care to spend all of the boosters money.

I want someone who loves UT, can win, and understands the situation coming in. Meet us half way. Make Gruden the highest paid coach in the land for all I care, but I don't think we need to make his staff the highest paid in the land as well.

Interesting point about someone who loves UT. I do think that he was impressed when he was here during the Majors' years with the tradition and history. No one tells a story better than Johnny. He is old school. When you hear about the conversations that Gruden has with pro players about UT they always say that the man has a big grin on his face and talks about UT with pride. I also suspect that he probably gets a good dose of UT around the house also.

I know that a lot of people think that he is really suited for the pro game and that is where his heart is. But you have to consider that Jon Gruden is now approaching 50 and you begin to think differently about things at that age. To know that you could settle and enjoy life, but yet, still stay involved with your heart's desire of coaching at a challenged situation like UT might seem like the perfect situation. He would have the opportunity to play golf, hunt, fish and still mingle with great football egos here.

When I say challenge you have to consider that it would be great to come in here and smack a midget around in a conference he thinks he owns. Especially when that midget was a failure on the stage in which he (Gruden) won the elite trophy.

If you're going 'all in' to bring UT football back to the top, then you DO NOT cut corners..... anywhere.. You're going to pay Gruden BIG money to coach football.. Let thim have the staff he wants.. Who is better qualified to make decisions on the people (and their qualifications) that will be working with/for him?

Well, think about this. What happens if Kelly leaves Oregon? Do you think Knight pays that much to help with the coaching change? It's a trend in college football now.

Sidenote. I hope Gruden, and I don't think he will, will play so many cupcakes on the schedule. I want to play the best. Most of today's SEC games are jokes.

So you are an American who supports another country's team. And you intend to join the service?

So do you root for the Chinese in the Olympics?

Don't forget that those are our guys out there playing for the red white and blue. If you don't support them gtfo.

Just the way it is.

Calling me unpatriotic is a very easy way to piss me off. America. Sucks. At. Soccer. Deal with it. Germany is my heritage and by nature my second favorite country. If I'm going to be willing to lay down my life day in and day out for this country, than I also have the right to root for whoever I damn well please.
