I agree. But what makes Gruden such a homerun hire is his potential to win key battles on the recruiting trail. I honestly believe that he will get the talent to win and win big. It's that saying, coaching is easy when you have better talent (that may not be the exact saying, but you get my point.)

No coach is a can't miss, but Gruden is about as close you can get IMO.

Plus, if there is a signed MOU as claimed on here a few nights ago, I would assume babyvol's post (or his information) is old. The parties most have cleared all of the necessary hurdles IF a MOU has indeed been signed.

Exactly....at this point he is either signed or we are on to the next guy. Waiting for the announcement is just too much for some to handle.

These coaches are going to get paid more and more with the new tv contracts whether we like it or not. UT can continue to look for discount coaches and get discount results or pay the money NOW rather than in buyouts for a lame ass coach like we have now. Choice it theirs.

It looks to me like Gruden is wanting to not only coach in college, but excel at it. Yoiu don't excel without top notch assistant coaches, especially coordinators. (See SS, as example number 1.)

Hearing that the guy we have now is out, officially, would take some of the edge off. At least, temporarily.

I'd anticipate a Tampa 2. He was only DC for one year at K State. He was named DC at Tampa Bay, but was promoted to HC before his first game as DC. So it really is kind of a wild card.

If there is an MOU the signature came earlier this week. So it may have been agreed to in principle a month ago, but something happened earlier this week according to several.

While I think these current figures as ridiculous, I am trying to think how UT could possibly think out of the box to make it happen. What are the possibilities that UT could squeeze some of the sponsors that would use Gruden to cover more of the cost? First Tennessee, Verizon, etc. You know with Gruden on those commercials that we have to watch may produce more marketing opportunities for those companies.

And on the Eastman recycling commercials we could show the fans throwing Benjamins in the recycling containers instead of plastics. At the end of the commercial we would have Gruden hugging an arm load with that Chucky grin on his face.

I just hope we pay whatever it takes we need Gruden at Tennessee. After the kiffin and dooley disasters we can't afford to be cheap.

This is what I think. It seems like there is a little delay in what some are hearing because it seems to line up with rumors from last week.
