Official Jon Gruden Thread VIII

The amount of money being thrown around is just plain stupid. If they fail the football team will close down like Hostes just did.

It's really not that stupid when you think about it. The net gain is astronomical!!!

We're all just jealous that we can't make that money doing what we love to do...drink beer.

I was trying to preach this last night, to no avail. Coaches won't sign an MOU unless they intend to take the job.

Yeah, people are getting caught up in the technical differences between a MOU and a finished contract. Practically speaking, and for our purposes as message board fans, its a distinction without a difference. If you believe our OGs info that he signed a MOU, then it's all over but the shouting.

only reason I choose to believe this stuff is:
a. Gruden does love Tennessee
b. His wife loves Tennessee
c. Reporters have said there is definite interest
d. Gruden has notified members of a potential staff
e. It is my belief no one would troll this much about such a big hire if they were seriously a Vol fan, and it seems the posters that claim sources can be trusted.

Hope it all works out, until then I'm all in for Gruden

Of course but with if they don't? We're stuck with them for 10 years! Paying them insane $$$.

I think that you need to follow the logical path that would lead to Jon Gruden not succeeding. He would need to:

- Hire sub-par talent

- Be unable to identify, recruit, and develop talent

- Be unable to scout and gameplan opponents

- Be unwilling to make changes when things aren't working

Again, there is nothing in his background that suggests any of those things would happen

Well, yeah it is crazy that anyone coaching a sport would get paid millions but if that is what the market demands then that is how it is I guess. Might as well sit back and enjoy the ride because with the new ESPN contract with SEC I doubt it gets any better from here. It is big business.

Not in the slightest. No staff is worth 9 million dollars unless it's Landry, Bellichik, Lombardi, etc.........on the same staff

Couldn't be further from the truth.

Gruden (and his staff) = more seats filled, merchandise sold, etc. which means more $.

While I am a criminal defense attorney, I obviously know the general principles. One poster was caught up with the MOU not being valid because the "job was not open." Last time I checked, people are terminated all of the time without it being public. Wish I could draft some MOU's for some important people.

The answer still stands. No coaching staff that coaches a sport is worth 9 MILLION DOLLARS.

Markets indicate that something is worth exactly what somebody is willing to pay for it. No more, no less.

Markets aren't logical, nor are they sentimental.

If we pay 9 mill to hire the Gruden show then 9mil is what he is worth.

Oh well, it is what it is.

If we're talking about the NFL, franchises/owners are worth billions and they continue profiting a ton. Would you rather owners keep the money? They might as well spend it to win, they're going to profit regardless. You don't think coaches are worth that much but I bet you still keep going to games, buying over priced tickets and help pay their salary.

Man grudenville hurts my eyes. So glad to have our bearutiful site instead if Gruden were to look at both our sites its a NO BRAINER!

Waco is not saying that. He just believes that no human who has a job in entertainment deserves any 7-figure dollar amount. he's a pinko commie.
