Official Jon Gruden Thread X

Hey guys, been following this thread religiously since the beginning, but I had forgotten that I sort of have a source of my own.

Anyway, my wife's grandparents are very good friends with Johnny Majors. Johnny called them on Thanksgiving and mentioned that it would not be Gruden or Gundy. TIFWIW.

I'm not discouraged, but it would have been nice to get some validation.

I see it's your first post........ and your gradparents say Johnny Majors told them it's not John Gruden or Gundy
I guess this is the gospel.......try again and again and again

This is what drives me crazy. Why does it have to be UT or Hart didnt get it done when Gruden doesn't come here? It couldn't possibly be that Gruden didn't want the job or that he wasn't the first choice. This is why this fanbase gets exactly what it deserves.

This board will blow up if Hart announces another 2nd tier coach.

From a poster on TOS:

"From one my friends at the game that sat up in one of the suites that Hart is planning on interviewing Jim Mora and Dan Mullen this week. All the boosters want Gruden and that is who they are going after the most, but that Hart has to continue to do his job as AD and have a plan B. TIFWIW..."

I've always had more hope than confidence. I still have 100% hope, but it will not surprise me one bit to learn that the administration found a way to screw it up.

If I find out that we lost Gruden over who hires the secretaries, I will immediately cancel my 10 season tickets.

I'm tired of my university athletics department being a laughing stock while Alabama racks up SEC championships.

The problem was always above Hamiltons head. When you limit the ADs ability to match your greatest rivals coaching salary, you already put the team at a disadvantage.

I can imagine the only reason Cheek gave back the money is because someone informed him of how insecure his job was getting.

To me, Cheek has always been the issue. Until he is gone, we wont improve.

If it doesn't happen I'm going to have a hard time believeing it was over that figure and if it was, Hart better hope and pray that it doesn't get out or he will be looking for a new job...

See that's what I don't get. The boosters are the purse strings here. Not hart. If 200k is the issue then they don't want him.

Hell set up a Paypal. We can get 200k easy in a week

Football Scoop hinted that the 4 million for assistants might be the problem. So I looked up Bama.

Alabama Crimson Tide grant coach Nick Saban raise, 2-year extension - ESPN

Saban 5.62 million
Smart 950,000
Nussmeier 590,000
Thompson 355,000
Williams 350,000
Rumph 310,000
Burns 290,000
Groh 280,000
Pruitt 260,000
Stoutland 395,000 (not llised, but I googled it)

3.8 million for assistants.

If that the 4 million for assistant salaries is indeed the issue, then UT will never be able to compete.

I wish someone could figure out lost revenue from todays miniscule attendance. Take it even further and figure it for the season based on empty seats alone. I know back when we were in that upper tier of not only SEC but NCAA when even "cupcakes" drew over 100k.

If the "talks" never got beyond Gruden's agent and his clients demands, then they would not speak at all. If there was never an offer made, no reason to address it.

This is of what I am afraid. Why address an issue that hasn't been brought to you? Of course, if no talks occurred then surely the media would say that rather than "talks have 'broken off'," right? I think that's the disconnect that still makes this whole situation plausible. I'm just not putting all my eggs in one basket.

That is what I laugh at. There is zero proof that Gruden was even Hart's #1 choice. No proof that Gruden has even been contacted. Just some random guys on a message board guessing and hoping something sticks so they can be considered an "insider".

Multiple others, that have no connection to this message board, have said what posters on here have been saying.

I agree, some of these people should be forced to have Dooley until he is eligible for SS.

Good information. That staff has earned that salary with two NC and in the hunt for a third. I could see how the AD would be hesitant to go for a high dollar staff but hope we hit a home run. Scary how big a business college football has become.

Thread goes a little something like this....morning-positive thoughts...mid morning-meltdown....afternoon stabilization...early evening-meltdown...stabilization and then the brew crew takes the night shift. Why do I allow myself to get caught up in the meltdowns...to stay sane, should only ride in the funvee and flatten the tires of the humdrumvee
