Wow. This thread is full of "gotchas" and "I told ya so's". And realistically, we don't know anything more than we did 24 hrs ago regarding our future coach.

Well if you're a guy wanting full control, you're obviously wanting a lot of grip on ALL aspects of the situation - which in my mind would include leaks in the AD office, etc. Nothing brings out the leaks like a coaching hire. If this is all part of the smokescreen, Gruden walks in effectively knowing who within the AD and who in the media he can trust and deal with. It may just be a coincidence but it would no doubt be a smart and effective strategy.

***Sorry mods for posting this in the incorrect topic earlier...

babyvol...

Several members of media pronouncing deal is dead due to demands of control. Several boosters have said deal is done. I spoke with someone that actually coached with Gruden at TN today that I know very well. Here is what I was told....the deal is neither dead nor done. 50 million over 8 years is on the table and there is alot of other factors that have to be worked out. He said media is being told its done to quiet the fanbase and prepare them if things don't get worked outt. He says others will be contacted but Gruden is still the #1 choice and hopes are the deal can get done. He says Gruden's interest is genuine. This person also said boosters were partially correct in that Gruden agreed to his part of the contract a while back.
I was told by someone else close to situation that they believe the pecking order is Gruden, Stoops, Fisher, Patterson, then Strong. This person felt like it might fall all the way to Strong if its not Gruden. Again...i just post whati hear.....hopefully it gets worked out with Gruden but I feel more relieved after hearing the pecking order as ot sounds like we will get a great coach regardless.

Seems to me all the sources would have same timeframes and salaries if they were getting their info from the boosters

We have way too many differences on both

I'm glad to do it!

Let me ask you a question Mr. "I'm glad to do it"..

Do you enjoy the FACT that Tennessee SUCKS right now or is this just sheer joy of possibly getting your rocks off by pointing your finger, yelling nana nana boo boo, I told you so?

Seems like it's one or the other to me..

Money is not the "snag". The "snag" is that Gruden wants complete control of the program and the administration is not willing to give it up from what everyone is hearing.

Yeah I was listening to "The Drive" (I believe it was Friday) and they were discussing this issue. If I remember correctly they gave this statement and then did talk about some assistants issues. They were debating what issue it could be. Hart said Dooley picked Sal, so they didn't see it being the ability to pick assistants. They don't see it being academics and they mentioned it would be too much to ask to replace a lot of the non-coaching staff. So I don't know what the issue would be.

I don't think we should forget that there has been no official denial of anything by the Gruden camp, ESPN, or the AD. TIFWIW, but it has to say something about the Gruden situation specifically since all of the other possible coaches are still coaching/have bowl games to worry about, etc. Even if contacted, nothing would come out inregards to them anyway because they still have important ball games ahead.

Everybody stay cool
