If we have Gruden sowed up, what he said makes sense. You're gonna hear a couple of names being mentioned as targets for Hart to approach and talk to.
1. It draws attention away from Gruden
2. He's following the rules by interviewing multiple candidates for the open position.
As i said, lines up with what SBV was saying.
"In the NFL, the head coach can dictate personnel in many different areas, like strength coaches, trainers, doctors, PR people, media obligations, donor obligations, speaking appearances, endorsements, etc.
College coaches are given a certain measure of control and input over those areas, but giving a coach complete control over one or more of those areas doesn't work in the college setting. Not even Saban has that. He's also not real keen over the idea of having compliance people having to approve every move, and that's something a school absolutely cannot budge on in the current climate.
Additionally, coaches that come from the NFL or other schools may have sponsor contracts that conflict with or interferewith a school's obligations and/or state policies on state employee endorsements."
DeerPark on TOS in regard to what may be holding up the Gruden talks.
The reason I would hire Petersen is because he wins. It's that simple. I understand he wins in a conference that is not the SEC. He also does not have SEC players. He is a big time proven winner. He has taken his Boise teams and played right with teams loaded with 4-5 star talent. Petersens winning would help him recruit in the SEC. I have no doubt alot of great assistant coaches would love to coach at UT with Petersen as HC. Give Petersen 4 million bucks to hire a staff and we would be a contender in 2013 I have no doubt.
