"In the NFL, the head coach can dictate personnel in many different areas, like strength coaches, trainers, doctors, PR people, media obligations, donor obligations, speaking appearances, endorsements, etc.
College coaches are given a certain measure of control and input over those areas, but giving a coach complete control over one or more of those areas doesn't work in the college setting. Not even Saban has that. He's also not real keen over the idea of having compliance people having to approve every move, and that's something a school absolutely cannot budge on in the current climate.
Additionally, coaches that come from the NFL or other schools may have sponsor contracts that conflict with or interferewith a school's obligations and/or state policies on state employee endorsements."
