Official Jon Gruden Thread XIV

On Thanksgiving (unrelated to this info)...I had it confirmed that talks with Gruden had been occurring for months. I got a text that day confirming that it was done.

Now, several days before that, I had already been told that our next coach was attained, but I got the same info that you did on Thanksgiving. I was also told that an announcement may be forthcoming on Friday.

My handicap is that I don't trust dates and times. Like the OG's I was told that Dooley was done after MSU (with a loss). The people giving me that info were totally unrelated to what was being spouted here.

About three weeks ago, I got info that the AD was beginning to leak about Gundy, Fisher, Golden, Fedora, Strong etc. It made no sense for that list to be coming out when it did...especially considering the cloak of secrecy surrounding the search. It was almost as if it was intended to quell the talk.

Now, read all of these ramblings with this caveat:
I was told from the beginning that controlling the flow of info was very important to Gruden.

I'm certain that whatever deal may be has been in the works for months. By months I mean more than two.

Sorry for the long answer. My opinion is that if the rift between Hart and the Boosters was real....Hart would have been given his walking papers months ago. Any reasonable person in Hart's position would realize that if dealings were to be done with Gruden, that an AD with a sitting coach wouldn't be able to do that.

Once again, I apologize for thinking out loud.

I have a theory about the MSU firing date thing...bc that corresponds to approx the time the boosters believed they would get JG, though perhaps Hart wanted to give DD a chance. Almost as if there have been two different plans going on. Whatever the case, I think the juice had decided to can him after MSU, regardless of when it was announced. I always believed DD was serving as a placeholder to buy time until the JG thing was ready to go.

Why would the agent go to Woodberry with his "story" instead of going say to Hargis? HEAT...Why not try to cut off the head rather than the tail. Was caught in it and with the way the TFP story had been checked, it contained too many facts from someone who couldn't be refused as being involved. Not trying to keep things cooking but Knoxville media is being feed the story that is wanted out there.

And people want to rag on Stephen Hargis but hang on Hubb's every word

I for one think that everything Stephen Hargis said was absolutely true. The guy never waivered, said his source was someone who was contacted by Gruden about being on his staff at Tennessee.

The only delima I have is whether or not this really did fall through at the last minute, or if its an elaborate smoke screen like some say.

You know, Haslam might just be giving Hart enough rope to hang himself. Think about it. Hart scuttles Gruden because he guarantees somebody better. Comes back and proposes Dooley 2.0. The incompetence would shine through and make it really easy to fire his sorry azz, replace him with Fulmer or Blackburn, and make the Gruden hire.

Ooooh me likey LOTS and LOTS and LOTS!!!

FULMER FOR AD!!!!! :good!:

Last time Gruden turned down the job he said he really liked Tennessee and they watched the games all the time at his house.

Said he hated to see things go the way they did with Kiffin and this is a great school but he just didn't think it was the right thing for him.

This time his agent says we were living in a fantasy world and that's the only statement we get.

That doesn't seem right to me.
I haven't see his statement from last time but I hope you are right and it is positive instead of negative. Any idea where I can find that statement? :good!:

I would like to say that it was more of a statement than a story and/or interview....:hi:

That was my impression as well. With the same backstory that it was imperative to Gruden that the deal didn't give appearances that he "pushed" Dooley out.

For the record, I have heard the same as you regarding Hart and the boosters not being on the same page and it appears our timing is similar. I just don't completely buy it.

Which is almost exactly what I've said, especially in my first few posts.

I'm hearing that this is all still in place and under control.

It's a video someone posted on here I have no Idea how far back in the Gruden threads.

He was on a football show on ESPN talking about how special this place was and how great a job it is after Kiffin F*ed us. And said he hated how that went down.

I like it here in "Fantasy Land". Think I'll kick my shoes off make myself comfy and stay a while (til someone is at the podium) :peace2:

Fantasyland is more enjoyable than the 60,000 spectator wonderland that will be Neyland for the first few games next season with a mediocre coach.

when as much money, time, and effort is on the line here, would you not think it possible that there would be some pretty intricate and thought-out plans/diversions to insure nothing got too out of hand?
