I'm out. My wife is pulling me to bed. She thinks I need serious help now because of all the time I've spent on here since the Gruden train picked up steam. In fact, we have a bet going. If Gruden is not named the coach, then I have to hold her every night in January. But if Gruden does become the coach, then every other night in January she has to ... well, kids could be reading. I'm out.

SOON!

Why just every OTHER night?!

Lol, you have to hold her every night if he's not coach. A fate worse than death, sir.

A chronology of comments about Nick Saban taking the head coaching job at Alabama:

Nov. 27:
Saban: "When I was in college it was always about coming to the pros. This is the challenge I wanted. I had a good college job. Why would I have left that if I was going to be interested in other college jobs?

"I took this as a challenge. We certainly haven't seen this through and gotten where we want to go and finished the job here, so why would I be interested in something else?"

Dec. 5:
Dolphins owner Wayne Huizenga (after giving Saban a vote of confidence): "I am completely sold on Nick Saban. I would admit we made a mistake if we did make a mistake, but I firmly believe in Nick Saban."

Dec. 7:
Saban: "I'm flattered that they may have been interested in me, but it never really progressed, because we just never let it progress."

Dec. 21:
Saban: "I guess I have to say it. I'm not going to be the Alabama coach. ... I don't control what people say. I don't control what people put on dot-com or anything else. So I'm just telling you there's no significance, in my opinion, about this, about me, about any interest that I have in anything other than being the coach here."

Dec. 27:
Saban: "I'm just making a rule to never comment on something like that again because every time you comment on it, it just makes for another story. So I'm not going to comment on it five years from now, and I'm not going to comment on it next week."

Jan. 4:
Saban: "What I realized in the last two years is that we love college coaching because of the ability that it gives you to affect people, young people. ... If I knew that my heart was someplace else in what I wanted to do, I don't think it would be fair to the [Dolphins] organization if I stayed."

Still don't get the love for strong

Same... he is out recruited by other teams in the Big East, and this is his best season yet... at 10-2. I think he may be a good coach, but he is a gamble at this point in his career. Fisher is the most solid option, we know he can recruit, he may underachieve, but he will consistently win 9+ games a year(Richt 2.0), but I don't see any candidate this year that will take us to championships.

been waiting for something like this. This isn't the reason I think gru is coming but it's an example of how how he coaching search really works. The main difference here is gruden has never actually said no as saban did numerous times

If something falls through and we end up with Gundy expect losing seasons like Dooley.

I still think we get Gruden but the deal isn't solid until I hear an announcement.

Ridiculous. You're basically saying anyone but Gruden would bring us losing seasons. I guess if we hire Strong, we'll be 3-9. That's just silly.

Gundy would win here.

I will say this. If it isn't Gruden it better be Stoops or Strong or we are in trouble. Gundy will make Dooley look good and Fisher is a clown.

OK, scratch part of my last post. Fine if you prefer Strong to Gundy. I still am confident that Gundy>Dooley. Good grief.

I wouldn't go as far as to say that, but I don't see championships in these coaches... Fisher is the best recruiter out of these, and he's a Mark Richt 2.0, just enough to stay, but never win the big games.

WTH happened to the night shift 'round here? I wanna talk about beer, boobs, and squatch, Not Gruden... Save that for when the sun comes up

"Volunteers lead by 7, 9:40 left to play. Martin back to pass, stumbles. Goes long.....got a man, Price! Price at the 45, the 40, the 30, the 20..."

Sorry. Was singing my favorite Christmas tune.

He's ranked at the top of his conference in recruiting since he's been there. Imagine him with UT's money for recruiting and the best facilities in the country.

I'm still saying Gruden though.

Great post.
It's good that it sounds like the search won't fall below Strong. My biggest concern has been that Strong, Gundy, and Fisher all stay put, and we are left scrambling.
