IMO he doesn't want to burn any bridges. That espn gig would be sweet when he wants to permantly retire from coaching.

Think about this if you're Gruden, what matters more: hitting the recruiting trail earlier to get a slightly better class for one year, or protecting your relationship with a company that could be who you finish your career with?

Recruiting class.

Good morning Carter...

Have you read MACGRUDER's long post (thread) and what are your thoughts on it?

Morning!

Being nice, I think it is a good well written story but not much more than that. I can see where one could surmise all that given what has been talked about here. Don't get mad at me lol, but I think we have very near 0% chance of hiring Jon Gruden. I understand hanging on to hope for something but that's all it is at this point, hope.

If he is planning to be our coach that's an easy answer. RECRUITING

What do you guys think of Mora? Just read that Skeeter said that he is very interested in this job.

Like Mora but would need a $10m penalty minimum for 3-4 years if he wants to bounce to the NFL. That's my only concern with Mora.

In the end I really expect it to be Strong or Fisher.

While I have appreciated all the info from the OGs in this thread, and I do believe their info is correct. Over the weekend I looked at it as if I had heard nothing on here, and nothing I mean nothing adds up. I am still all in.

It would be nice to know if his ESPN contract has anything in it stating if he starts MNF in a given year he cannot leave until that year is finished without any penalties.

Honestly, I doubt that waiting until after MNF would effect Gruden on the recruiting trail. They're either going to be swayed by a Super Bowl winning coach and Tennessee or they're not. He's only going to swing the ones on the fence anyways.

I wouldn't be surprised if Hart had his guy done by thurs. His plan all along was to have someone hired no later than the 15th, i think he's well ahead of that target date.

In response to "Will a coach be hired this week" question.

Do you think its gonna be Strong?

No announcement this week would help the Grudes cause but how many of you think we'd have to wait all the way to the 17th to know?

BC are you working for the other side now? Really the only thing that makes sense is CJG.

I agree somewhat. I think Saban did the same thing while he was at the Dolphins and even Hart has indicated that existing Head Coaches should be allowed to complete their seasons before he contacted them. It is a measure of professionalism endorsed by many.

As far as recruiting goes, I think there's plenty of time before LOI's are signed and I think whether Gruden and his new staff contacts the kids in December or even January he is potentially going to be a greater draw than Saban was his first year at Bama. That year Saban signed 9 players who committed before he was hired, the other 15 committed 10 days or longer after he was hired. Obviously it wasn't his best class (ranked #10) and I think the reason which will be the same drawback for us is time available for recruit evaluation since both Saban & Gruden were coming from outside the college ranks at the time of their hire.
