I had major eye surgery on 11/30 Friday. Today is the first day I could somewhat use the computer. Anybody care to share what happened to this whole Gruden thing? cliffs? did he decline or something?

Thanks!

I'm not one for conspiracy theories, but I think money could be the deciding factor here. And not money in the way most think. If I'm not mistaken, Jon Gruden is still owed money by the TB Bucs and if I understand correctly, TB owes him a certain amount minus what he would get if he takes a coaching job. I don't know when he gets paid, but realistically it would makes sense for him to wait on signing any kind of contract until he's paid that money by TB. Get the money from TB and THEN sign with a team and collect money from that organization. If TB paid him and found out that he had signed a contract before he was paid, couldn't they sue him to recoup what they should have subtracted from his buyout? That realistically could explain the delay. Not only do they need to wait on signing him, but they need to make it appear realistic like he DEFINITELY didn't take the job before TB paid him. Hence the media circus by UT and LaMonte to create this idea that UT wasn't interested or the deal fell through and Gruden is happy at ESPN. Then UT interviews other coaches, plays the game, Gruden gets paid and then he signs with UT and gets paid again.

It's a wild conspiracy theory I admit, but we're talking a lot of money on the line!

TB contract is already over. Let's not get confused with facts, however.

From what I read in the recruiting portion, Skeeter stated that he expected there to be an offer in 24-48 hours but did not specifically say to Strong. I could have missed something.

here is what skeeter said.............

Skeeter at 9:37 am today

Sounding like Strong may be offered soon. Louisville has the money, but they would have to pay more than Tennessee to keep him, not just match. Strong wants "to be in the sec.

Skeeter at 10:16 am

I think Hart will make an offer with in the next 24-48 hours. I think he will speak with Fisher today and i would be very surprised if anything came from that. I really dont think Fisher wants to play UF, Bama and UGA every year."

The rumor (and I believe that's all it was) was that his last check from Tampa was coming on 11/30. So even if that rumor were true, we are past that date.

Its not a big deal. If the coach leaves then the recruit can always change his mind again and claim it was because the coach left and nobody would fault him.

If I was the recruits dad I would look at Charlie Strong different is all I am saying. It might now have a bearing at all, but if he has told any of the current players/commits this same thing when asked you are all of the sudden talking about 80+ families.

You don't tell a kid that if he is flipping though. I could understand if he is a long time commit. I would be pissed if a coach told me that over the weekend and then left.

If Strong came to Tennessee, maybe we could have used him. If I was that kid, I'd be pissed, and never go where Strong went after that.

Photo sent to Hargis after publishing Gruden story.

Needs to be sent to Hart if he did f### things up with Gruden!

Okay, I missed the first quote..

It's his obligation to Louisville to do and say whatever it takes to get a commitment within the rules until he is no longer there. It's dirty but recruiting isn't for the thin skinned followers.

It is not his duty to lie, there are other responses to use.

Umm, well, yeah, there are these rules, I mean laws, that say you cannot do that. Just to let you know, so any one outside of this board thinks you are ignorant or dumb.

That was mean.

Just so everyone knows...there can be preliminary negotiations, but once you offer and the other person accepts, you cannot revoke your offer. You are bound to that offer.

If this is the case, then why do we think this hire will be any different as it relates press knowledge? I know Hart is in charge and not Hamilton but if our local media had no clue and it was actually told to you on a message board, why do we put ANY confidence in them this time? I know I'm still holding onto Gruden hope like a lot of you in here, but I think this is just as logical as all the other ones that are talked about. I was thinking Gruden or Strong. Now I'm thinking Gruden or some coach out of left field.

I'm totally with you, and I DON'T trust the media on this one. ESPN is self-serving to its very core, and has probably done a lot of work to tamp down rumors so that if it ends up being Gruden, they get to report it first.
The Knox media, well I don't need to tell you what I think of them (except Basilio). I think we're all on this board because guys like Hyams, Rucker, and Hubbs don't know their @$$eS from a hole in the ground. Furthermore, I DON'T trust a word Bob LaMonte is saying. I think what he said was more related to being an agent than being a teller of truths. I DO trust Stephen Hargis because there has not been one single person on this board or elsewhere who has questioned Hargis' credibility, and he stuck his neck out and keeps it there.

Until they show me it's NOT Gruden, I remain hopeful, and the media has given me no credible reason to expect anything less than Gru.

That said, what's coming out right now looks for all the world like there's an offer in place and Fisher and Strong are in the midst of some serious spinning/damage control to keep up appearances of their value for other negotiations (Auburn, Arkansas, etc...).

I wonder why? They knew he sucked and would make us an easy when for both of them.

If Saban really thought, I wonder why re retained Dooley's services when he accepted the gig with the Miami Dolphins. Don't buy into conspiracy theories. Just think Dooley wasn't ready for the magnitude of job he received at UT.
