I'm not one for conspiracy theories, but I think money could be the deciding factor here. And not money in the way most think. If I'm not mistaken, Jon Gruden is still owed money by the TB Bucs and if I understand correctly, TB owes him a certain amount minus what he would get if he takes a coaching job. I don't know when he gets paid, but realistically it would makes sense for him to wait on signing any kind of contract until he's paid that money by TB. Get the money from TB and THEN sign with a team and collect money from that organization. If TB paid him and found out that he had signed a contract before he was paid, couldn't they sue him to recoup what they should have subtracted from his buyout? That realistically could explain the delay. Not only do they need to wait on signing him, but they need to make it appear realistic like he DEFINITELY didn't take the job before TB paid him. Hence the media circus by UT and LaMonte to create this idea that UT wasn't interested or the deal fell through and Gruden is happy at ESPN. Then UT interviews other coaches, plays the game, Gruden gets paid and then he signs with UT and gets paid again.
It's a wild conspiracy theory I admit, but we're talking a lot of money on the line!
From what I read in the recruiting portion, Skeeter stated that he expected there to be an offer in 24-48 hours but did not specifically say to Strong. I could have missed something.

Its not a big deal. If the coach leaves then the recruit can always change his mind again and claim it was because the coach left and nobody would fault him.
You don't tell a kid that if he is flipping though. I could understand if he is a long time commit. I would be pissed if a coach told me that over the weekend and then left.
here is what skeeter said.............
Skeeter at 9:37 am today
Sounding like Strong may be offered soon. Louisville has the money, but they would have to pay more than Tennessee to keep him, not just match. Strong wants "to be in the sec.

I think Hart will make an offer with in the next 24-48 hours. I think he will speak with Fisher today and i would be very surprised if anything came from that. I really dont think Fisher wants to play UF, Bama and UGA every year."
I'm still holding out for Coach Billy Joe Tom Bob Parker ( Proudly rebuilding the Clyde Clod University Fighting Possums for over 28 years) if the Gruden thing falls through. Those under 40 might not get that reference so here is a link: Venable: The ol' coach still has it » Knoxville News Sentinel
Umm, well, yeah, there are these rules, I mean laws, that say you cannot do that. Just to let you know, so any one outside of this board thinks you are ignorant or dumb.
That was mean.
If this is the case, then why do we think this hire will be any different as it relates press knowledge? I know Hart is in charge and not Hamilton but if our local media had no clue and it was actually told to you on a message board, why do we put ANY confidence in them this time? I know I'm still holding onto Gruden hope like a lot of you in here, but I think this is just as logical as all the other ones that are talked about. I was thinking Gruden or Strong. Now I'm thinking Gruden or some coach out of left field.
I wonder why? They knew he sucked and would make us an easy when for both of them.
