Put yourself in strong's shoes this weekend with recruits. It's his job to sell himself to those kids. He is paid by Louisville to do a job and he did exactly what he should do since he still is the coach there. He doesn't know tenn or Anybody else is going to offer him the job and until that happens he should keep doing exactly what he did this weekend..

I guess, I still think its wrong to flat out tell a recruit I am staying to get him to flip to louisville if he is considering leaving.

Maybe we can get some of Louisville's commits, oh wait the great recruiter only has 9 and I don't want any of them.

Jeez I can't believe that I am actually going to be reading the 15th thread regarding Gruden.

What a ride this has been.

Agreed. If I recall, he came to us as a recommendation from Muschamp during his interview.

I found out from a Longhorn board regular that Muschamp had recommended Dooley and that it was likely our next coach about 48 hours before it was reported we had hired him.

Muschamp did point us to Dooley and Saban was also asked about Dooley and recommended him.

I'm not one for conspiracy theories, but I think money could be the deciding factor here. And not money in the way most think. If I'm not mistaken, Jon Gruden is still owed money by the TB Bucs and if I understand correctly, TB owes him a certain amount minus what he would get if he takes a coaching job. I don't know when he gets paid, but realistically it would makes sense for him to wait on signing any kind of contract until he's paid that money by TB. Get the money from TB and THEN sign with a team and collect money from that organization. If TB paid him and found out that he had signed a contract before he was paid, couldn't they sue him to recoup what they should have subtracted from his buyout? That realistically could explain the delay. Not only do they need to wait on signing him, but they need to make it appear realistic like he DEFINITELY didn't take the job before TB paid him. Hence the media circus by UT and LaMonte to create this idea that UT wasn't interested or the deal fell through and Gruden is happy at ESPN. Then UT interviews other coaches, plays the game, Gruden gets paid and then he signs with UT and gets paid again.

It's a wild conspiracy theory I admit, but we're talking a lot of money on the line!

What about Gundy? UGH Fedora.

I'd take Gundy over Fedora any day of the week, but I just don't see how T. Boone lets a guy like Gundy go. OSU was irrelevant before Miles and co. got there, and would be again immediately if Gundy decides to leave.
He's coaching at his alma mater, getting paid about $1.5 mill a year more than he's worth, and he knows that any conflicts with his AD will result in Pickens firing and replacing said AD.

I just can't see a logical reason why Gundy would do anything but play us for leverage to get that sweetheart contract he felt he was screwed out of after last year.

But it is a business pretty sure would not be the first time this happens. If the coach flips to another school.

I understand he would not be the first to say it, but they are still dealing with 17 or 18 year old kids and their families. It just seems shady to me, I think there are other ways to go about it than come out and say without a doubt " I will be here".

Its not a big deal. If the coach leaves then the recruit can always change his mind again and claim it was because the coach left and nobody would fault him.

I'm not sure and the people I've talked to aren't sure either. Hard to imagine it's someone that is still active, but stranger things have happened. Like I said earlier, folks are being very coy about all of this. I can't read if they know more than they're saying or if they just really don't have specifics.

Are you saying someone other than Jon Gruden?

It's his obligation to Louisville to do and say whatever it takes to get a commitment within the rules until he is no longer there. It's dirty but recruiting isn't for the thin skinned followers.

Someone reported that the buyout ended in 2011... although I've found no evidence of how the buyout was structured online, unfortunately.

I think it has to do with the ESPN contract he just got extended to 2016 on... maybe there was a a penalty about leaving before the end of the 2012 season?

My guess is he flipped because he found out he would have to be in Mississippi, and realized Louisville, while not a huge step up, is a step up.
All kidding aside, if true, then this points to someone having the offer.
Looks like just in the last hour or two we have gotten credible confirmation that Jimbo is staying at FSU, and now we are hearing that Strong is contacting recruits to let them know he's staying (not sure I buy it, but I'll play along). Both of these things together point to someone else having been offered the job and the final details being worked out.
It's face-saving time for Strong and Fisher, who both want to look like they considered and thought better not to come (rather than the truth, which is probably that after all the interviews were done, another candidate was offered).
I just pray to God and all that's holy that the guy who posted that he "got a text from his source that it is Fedora and the presser is Thursday at 3 PM," is wrong.

This looks like a deal is done and Fisher and Strong are spinning after not being the final candidate to get the offer.

If this is true about Fedora, I will be one ******off old Ranger. FML

Lets hire Manning! He can coach on saturday and play for the Broncos on Sunday! He is that good! LoL! Or maybe Jim Bob Cooter? Grasping at straws here! LOL!

You can tell a coach is lying when he opens his mouth. With the type of money these guys get paid now I don't trust one word I'm hearing from ANYONE.

If this is the case, then why do we think this hire will be any different as it relates press knowledge? I know Hart is in charge and not Hamilton but if our local media had no clue and it was actually told to you on a message board, why do we put ANY confidence in them this time? I know I'm still holding onto Gruden hope like a lot of you in here, but I think this is just as logical as all the other ones that are talked about. I was thinking Gruden or Strong. Now I'm thinking Gruden or some coach out of left field.

I believe most of the candidates will be given an offer. Then UT will see who accepts and choose the one they want from the group that said they would accept.

Umm, well, yeah, there are these rules, I mean laws, that say you cannot do that. Just to let you know, so any one outside of this board thinks you are ignorant or dumb.

That was mean.
