Official Jon Gruden Thread XLIII

I spoke with one of my two contacts after the Schiano nonsense broke. This person is still in on Gruden, and had warned me that info from AD would be misdirection, but was absolutely furious that Schiano's name was used for this purpose. It was out of left field for my person, and the response to Schiano has been almost universally negative, internally.

What I think (OPINION) happened goes something like this. Someone decided that in an effort to make Currie's last minute reveal of Gruden a superheroic "Currie saved us" moment, that Schiano would be a good name to use for that purpose. Horrible decision. His name has no business anywhere near this University. Even the inevitable backtracking makes us look bad: "Schiano decides he doesn't want to coach for us because of our fans."

Horribly conceived and executed misdirect, IMO. Whoever came up with it should be ashamed. And the people making the decisions need to seriously stop worrying about John Currie's image and get on with business.

No matter what, thank you to any of you guys that brought forth information that either turns out to be credible or merely incredible to read. You’ve made this whole process fun and entertaining for all us that have chosen to believe with you.

If the Schiano stuff is true, Currie needs fired. If he used it as a smokescreen, he needs fired. No excuse for this either way

Maybe we do over value the Tennessee coaching job? Have all these coaches turned us down? Why can’t we just get a coach worth his salt? Is the job so bad that we have to hire a retread whom was never that good to begin with? I’ve been a fan for 37 years and we’ve fallen farther than I would’ve ever imagined. We have a deep rooted problem that we’ll likely never recover from. Driven our once proud football program to depths unfathomed.

One heck of a good smokescreen they are throwing out right now.

Soon!

this is an obvious question and has prob already been posted 100 times, but .......

why the hell is a smokescreen OF ANY KIND NEEDED ????????????????????????

this is childish and ridiculous bullsh*t !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Remember the guy this morning saying he had seen a photo this am, and he shat himself....He never said if it was a good way or not.

Reasonable. But wouldn't this hasten the Gruden reveal? Seems like Currie would've squashed it by now and perhaps "saved the day already". Right now it appears as though they're scrambling.

This is terrible. Literally one of the worst names brought up. No way this gets done. Hell bring back Phil as interim. Unbelievable

Insiders?? Lol. Had in not occurred to you that we have no such thing? Tell you what, I designate you as our new insider. So spout some garb that fits your agenda and we will call it true. Then post a pic of a fish being saved by a cat or something cool. Thst always verifies your status here.

So the dumpster fire that was UT Football didn't slowly burn itself out as we all thought it would after the 2017 season ended with a pitiful whimper at Neyland Stadium yesterday evening. This morning, right around the time most of us were trying to finally finish off the leftovers from Thanksgiving, it suddenly erupted into a six-alarm inferno that engulfed all of Knoxville, and then spread to Vol Nation. There wasn't enough water in the Tennessee River to even slow it down.

...didn't see that one coming.

If Schiano really was/is the choice, then Currie is finished here before he really got started. The backlash, which is already bad enough to doom most AD's, isn't going away. Eventually the influence of Fulmer, Manning, yes...Gruden, and other influential Men of The Hill will be felt...and John Currie will have to seek his entertainment elsewhere. If there's a grain of truth to the rumors (about Currie's gambit), then good riddance.

But until and unless, let's just wait and see how it plays out. Something here doesn't pass the smell test with me. Until I know who, or what, is afoot here, I'm not ready to pass final judgement. Yet.

Go Vols.

Kirk can suck it[/QUOTE]

Let's get something clear about ole Kirk....

O$U could have the following and he'd swear they were clean as a preachers sheets:

HC: Meyer
OC: Kiffin
D.C.: Shicano
DL Sandusky
QBC Petrino

How did we fall so far, so fast today? I truly believed that Currie was pulling the Gruden deal off....and if it wasn’t Gruden it would still be a homerun hire.

How did we get to this debacle?

No, really.

I thought the same and have NO answer, but this is the worse PR nightmare in Tennessee football that I can recall

I don't know what is going on, but this has gotten way out of control to the tune of the Great Gatlinburg Fire of 2016 proportions.

The gig is up, whatever they have "planned" up there at UTAD better get announced VERY soon because this has become an unnecessary Sh*t storm.

Then after someone is announced, some heads need to roll! This has been amateur hour at it's worst.

...of course.....I have to add this..............(Gruden)

Former member of UT board of trustees unhappy with Schiano hiring: "In the current environment you couldn't have done anything worse than perceived to have known about Jerry Sandusky (and said nothing). You (UT) can't take that chance. I'm speechless. Unbelievable. "

Talking to someone at Ohio State, Greg Schiano was hired before testimony from former Penn State assistant Mike McQueary that was unsealed saying that Greg Schiano knew of Sandusky's abuse. Says that Tennessee should do proper vetting.

Greg Schiano had solid success at Rutgers. He also allegedly knew of Jerry Sandusky's sexual abuse at Penn State. Things to know about the potential Vols hire: knoxne.ws/2Be3ztw

If Knuck and Exile are still in, I am too. This just doesn’t make any sense, at all. I don’t care how incompetent you are....you don’t troll your own fan base and then hire someone of this alleged character flaws.

You beat me to it, but this is what I've been thinking since this started. It's gone too far to be a smokescreen. If, for the sake of argument, you buy the entire Booster/Gruden masterplan per Beav and the rest, what's to say that eliminating Currie wasn't part of the plan all along, or became part of the plan when Currie wouldn't play ball? The powers that be axe Currie over this, in swoops Blackburn with Gruden on a silver platter.

As much fun as conspiracy theories are, this would mean that Blackburn and Fulmer and (?)Manning and others would allow this horrendous mess to further blacken UT's name, and I just can't by this.

The best I can hope for is that Currie was trying to be clever, it got away from him, and he has no idea how to control it.

A sad, sad day for the University of Tennessee and those of us who love her.
