p.s. Just as it didn't start with Schiano for me, it doesn't end with Phil as AD. We still need a great football coach. Your "war" with Haslam may be ended, and I'm happy for you. But we're still on the march for the excellence of Tennessee football.

This is bigger than the coach. What a day for all of us. We saw our chance when they counted on us to be passive last Sunday. They counted wrong...

I am exhausted like many who have been giving their all for Tennessee since Sunday. So many things I wish I could tell y’all but just know you were heard and that voice gave energy to those that were fighting within the AD and boosters. Our friend that leaked the Schiano move gave us the opening.

You can let your opinion be heard but maybe a little less vitriol now that we have orange in the chair.

I’m going to tell you all a story about Phil Fulmer. Many of you know that I lost my teenage son a few months ago. He was born in ‘98 and was a surviving twin. That fall my husband and I were grieving the loss of one son and our other son was in the NICU hanging onto life by a tenuous thread. We had been through so many crises as any parent of a child in the NICU can tell you is just the way it is. We were grieving, scared and exhausted. We happened to catch the end of our football game vs Arkansas I believe - the one where their quarterback inexplicably fumbled and we came back to win? My husband had just said, “Well, that’s the ballgame.” I replied, “You never know what can happen!” He said, “All he has to do is take a knee.” Then the fumble happened and I KNEW that ANYTHING truly can happen and my son DID have a chance to make it! All things are possible! I knew from my faith, of course, that God could heal our son but for some reason seeing the end of that game gave me more hope.

I wrote a letter to Coach Fulmer after that thanking the team for not giving up and for showing that anything is possible. I received a very nice letter back from him telling me he read the letter to the team. He is a kind man with great character and compassion. I still have that letter.

It’s easy to say “It’s just football,” but as the poster whose son has depression commented and as our situation proves - sometimes it means MUCH more than just a game.

Just wanted to share that with my Volnation family.

With tears flowing. He is that man!

A little off topic but I wanted to share. My son has been struggling with depression for a while. A few weeks ago he almost made a permanent solution to a temporary problem. Luckily, we got to him before anything could happen. He is doing better now but today,when Currie was fired and Fulmer was announced as the AD, is the first time I have heard him laugh and act happy in a long time. He has a long way to go but this gives me hope. Thank you to Volnation and all those in the Gruden thread. You made a change in Tennessee football but also probably in a young mans life. I pray for his health more than anything but also for the the return to the dominance of Tennessee football. I want him to see it and not just here my stories about it. Go Vols!

We all deserve a big pat on the back because if it wasn’t for our commitment to this great University, I don’t think this would have ever happened! This was the fans doing! This was VolNations accomplishment and everyone deserves to be accredited; Coming from me personally, I would just like to say thank you to everyone on VolNation for rallying the troops and fighting for what we believe in!

With that said, I have enjoyed my time here and have enjoyed the discussions we’ve had. I hope I was able to shed some light on some things and I hope I was able to help aid in the cause. I have the utmost respect for Phillip Fulmer and hope everyone will get behind him and believe in him to do the best job possible. Phillip Fulmer is the greatest man I have ever known and he loves the University more than anyone, and I know, with all my heart, there’s truly no one better for the job.

I am (obviously) mainly a lurker, but thank you so much for sharing this, Volundeer. One can look at college football in the grand scheme of things and say that is not life or death, it's just football, etc. But then you see a story like this, or the children and their families at the University of Iowa Children's Hospital being waved to by a stadium full of fans, and Volundeer is right. It is more than just a game.

PS And Fulmer owned that press conference.
