'Research Universities' aren't limited to Ivy League - UGA is widely considered a research-focused institution and they have found a healthy balance.

Sorry but I wasn't insinuating that only Ivy League schools were "research" schools. There are others. However, I do not fall in the line that you go to school to do heavy amounts of research. You go to school to understand basic principles and a trade so that you can support yourself. Other than for medical or agricultural purposes, heavy research is for academics who don't want to live in the real world.

My main point is that I hope UT always sticks to its roots- an institution of higher learning for its state citizens.
