You think Bielema was a great hire? haha, that guy won in a weak division for years, cushioned by his environment away from the SEC. Now, he faces Alabama, LSU, A&M, Auburn, and Miss. State. What a terrible decision for him.Why make your life harder for 2 million dollars more a year?
Amen Gman.
They brought Hart in to be the proverbial "hatchet" man. Anyone in corp america knows that these type hires (Hart) are brought in to do a single job which is to trim the fat and cull the herd. He will not be here long and UT will be stuck with another dud as a football coach!!!
Mark my words Hart will return to Bama within 30 months!!!
If Arky can get Bielema, we should be able to do better than Strong.
You make a valid point. I should have not said that in regards to switching allegiences. They don't care about me that's true, and since they ate 1000 miles away, there is little chance of me supporting them either. They beat Bama this year, which is is something I don't see us doing anytime soon without a BIG hire.....and I don't just mean Gruden.
Strong is small time thinking, which seems to be the mold we are stuck in, and I'm tired of it. I still don't believe it, but if OT happens to come to fruition I believe it signals a continuation of mediocrity. Nobody here can seriously say Charlie Strong is the type of coach to go head to head with Nick Saban and have us on equal footing with Bama.
I unreservedly apologize for what I said, it was bush league. I love the Vols, but despise our leadership right now from top to bottom. I'm not alone in this.....many active letterman of various sports agree. It's a mess.
I've backtracked and apologized now, so all of you gloating trolls feel free to flame away. I'm mispoke, and am broad enough between the shoulders to take my lumps.
When this thing breaks the other way on you, be man enough to take what gets dishes back out.
This isn't over yet.

C'mon, don't call me 'bro'. I don't know you, and really don't mind that as I'm sure I wouldn't like you. I have a problem getting along with inferior/submissive people. Just been that way since birth.
If Strong were to be named Head Coach, I would quit supporting the Vols as well. That doesn't mean I wouldn't love the Tennessee Volunteers; it just means that I would be indifferent to the failures that would befall them while this group of Neanderthals were spearheading their journey towards irrelevancy.

I want to stress my respectful intent at the outset of this post, this is NOT a flame, but I would like to add two salient details:
1) Charlie said that he thought he was being passed over by Auburn in no small part due to race. They hired Gene Chizik (whose résumé was far from sterling, and who clearly turned out to be the wrong hire) above both he and Turner Gill, who at the time was a hot commodity. Note how he hasn't mentioned it since.
He was probably right, and I think it showed a lot of guts for him to say so publicly.
2) It is somewhat ironic that you mention Tony Dungy.
He is on record as having agreed with what Strong said. He said that he too believed Strong was passed over for jobs he would have done very well at (in the SEC) not just because he was black, but because his wife was white.
Regardless of how sensitive people can be about the "race card," it really isn't a stretch for me to believe that race had something to do with the Chizik hire in Auburn, Alabama. Not exactly known as a bastion of tolerance.
Can't get anything past you, huh?
And why was it wrong for Boro to say that? I still agree with him. Would you pay to go see a movie in theaters, pay for over-priced concessions (popcorn, drinks, candy), and put up with listening to the movie next door blaring through the walls when you could have just stayed home where there is an almost limitless amount of 'concessions', and watched another movie that's just as good and maybe even more entertaining?
Eloquently said!
Occam's Razor, my friend.
The UT job was in play until the Raiders called. That screwed it up. We came really close and almost got it done.
No shame in that. UT stepped up, we just weren't Gruden's preference.
