Official Jon Gruden Thread XV

Seriously... he's a Wisconsin alum and took them to 3 straight Rose Bowls... that's a home run hire. Strong? Eh, lost to Kentucky the same number of times as Dooley, out recruited by other schools in the Big East... was passed over by other schools for HC jobs, including Florida, who hired a, wait for it, Defensive Coordinator for HC. Florida knew him best and we should take their advice, of course to him it was "racist". Just bring Phil back, if this is the choice we have, let's just go back with Phil.

Worst part? Bielema was probably not even on our list...

The way it sounds to me though is that UT is playing Strong like a fallback option. I'm under the impression that this is Hart's backup plan if things have go sour with Gruden.

Nothing says middle school like running to the playground to say I told you so.

I don't consider myself apart of that group. But, nothing defines ignorance and oblivious better than this thread.

It is seriously comical how much time some of these people have put into the belief that Jon Gruden was coming to UT. It looks like borderline brain-washing.

The day I trust Hart and his 2 Alabama assistants that he brought with him to do the right thing and make the right hire, will be the day hell freezes over. I say pack their Alabama asses up and sent them on their way.

IMO there is no way on earth that Hart will hire a coach here that could upstage Saban at Bama his Alma Mater.

What coach in the country would upstage Saban?

Can't get anything past you, huh?

And why was it wrong for Boro to say that? I still agree with him. Would you pay to go see a movie in theaters, pay for over-priced concessions (popcorn, drinks, candy), and put up with listening to the movie next door blaring through the walls when you could have just stayed home where there is an almost limitless amount of 'concessions', and watched another movie that's just as good and maybe even more entertaining?

Not unless you're an idiot.

The AD is taking advantage of the fans; their main target, you. They realize there are people out there who will unconsciously dump money into their pockets, no matter what kind of product they produce. They simply don't care. That's the sickening part.
Post of the freaking year!

Lol. I'm discussing Jon Gruden. I'm discussing the fact that he's not coming here.

That is not a fact. That is an assertion made by you. It is not a fact until another coach is announced as HC. You are not adding to the conversation. In fact, you are detracting from the conversation by insulting your fellow Vol fans. Grow up

I don't think anyone is anti-Gruden here.

Sure just about everyone would be happy with him coming here.

There's just not a shot in hell that he does. He's gonna get an NFL offer.

The problem I have with you (and I apologize if it seems like I'm picking on you) and posters like yourself is that you come in here claiming that "[nobody] is anti-Gruden here", yet you bash people for holding on to their hopes and beliefs just because you "know" he's not coming.

If this was acceptable in every aspect of life, then I expect you to scold your children when they ask what time Santa will come to your house.

Doing anything other than this would make you a hypocrite.

This thread was really fun now its a little too serious. Everyone needs to relax, its not like you are dodging IEDs or having RPGs whiz by your head.

I don't think he is Dooley bad but he isn't winning any SEC championships and definitely not a NC contender.

I don't think whoever the coach is will be up for SEC championships and NC contention next year, Gruden included. Too much to fix and its going to take time.

I think we should have kept Dooley to keep this Gruden thing alive, Dave Hart screwed it up by firing him too early I guess..

There are plenty of top talent coaches out there that we should be pursuing. If we hire Strong, it reeks of desperation just like Dooley.

You make a valid point. I should have not said that in regards to switching allegiences. They don't care about me that's true, and isince they are 1000 miles away, there is little chance of me supporting them either. They beat Bama this year, which is is something I don't see us doing anytime soon without a BIG hire.....and I don't just mean Gruden.

Strong is small time thinking, which seems to be the mold we are stuck in, and I'm tired of it. I still don't believe it, but if it happens to come to fruition I believe it signals a continuation of mediocrity. Nobody here can seriously say Charlie Strong is the type of coach to go head to head with Nick Saban and have us on equal footing with Bama.

I unreservedly apologize for what I said, it was bush league. I love the Vols, but despise our leadership right now from top to bottom. I'm not alone in this.....many active letterman of various sports agree. It's a mess.

I've backtracked and apologized now, so all of you gloating trolls feel free to flame away. I'm mispoke, and am broad enough between the shoulders to take my lumps.

When this thing breaks the other way on you, be man enough to take what gets dished back out.

This isn't over yet.
Bo dont know ****.Boro does.....

You spend all day everyday in the recruiting forum believing certain HS kids are coming to UT and most of the time it doesn't happen. How's that different, Mr. Perfect?

There's no way Gruden coaches the Raider next year, regardless of whether he signs with us or not, at least as a result of anything that has gone on as of right now. That would violate so many NFL rules he'd find himself in Sean Payton's situation if he were even thought to be having legitimate talks with NFL brass while the season is still going and staffs are still employed.

Then why did Hub Arkush say talks were ongoing? You really doubt a solid professional reporter like that?

I also find it funny no one can ever provide documentation of the tampering rules in question. So there's that.
