It's not.
I think this thing can go either way.
We are at a sh!t or get off the pot moment. If Gru doesn't sign they will pull the trigger on Strong.

From what I heard today I can honestly say UT did everything they could to land Gru. They've met every demand. If Gru is not the coach it's because he doesn't want to be here.

When all if said and done I think the fans are going to be really unhappy. I doubt we get Strong. We're going to end up with our last choice, just like last time. Way to go, Dave Hart.

I wish it were that simple. Look at it his way..... ESPN/Disney paid basically 125mil for MNF. All in, it's costing them nearly 200mil!!! Almost a quarter of a Billion dollars. I know we all love and cherish our beloved program here at TN, ...but this is business. CJG and ESPN both know that this is big boy business, not just fun and games. Gruden leaves MNF for TN at the drop of a hat, with 2weeks left, and there are going to be some people at both NFL offices, as well as ad people, and at ESpn who will either come after you in some way, maybe even legally if hey can depending on what they've paid you or how your contract is set up....or try their best to blackball you. Handled correctly, everybody should be ok, and everything should be fine. . . It'll be great! TN will get all the positive press they want!! Handled the wrong way....and our little tiff with ESPN a few years ago (Manning, etc etc) will look like a schoolgirl hair pulling contest. No coverage, no gameday, and ESPN is actually against you.

Be patient.

Wait....I thought they already were against us!

This is from cliff notes:

Anybody surprised by this?

Anybody think this was supposed to happen?

Anybody think if we REALLY wanted one of these guys we would have made an offer they couldn't refuse to begin with???

Go back and look at my post from earlier today. We'll offer 3.5 they'll offer a little more. We'll counter to $4. We'll have a $2 coach that we're gonna pay. $6 mil to get including buyout. SMDH

This is like Rich Rod coming from West Virginia material.

did anybody see jimmy johnson crazy almost erry, speech on the football awards. he was very passionate about college football, saying u can never loose that feeling when your coach and u lose after playing a very good game. also said some other crap, could be coincidental, and i know its a football award show but it was almost like he was selling it to someboady.

if anybody else noticed this, please comment. does espn know something we dont?

Hire gruden or resign Hart.
That is your only logical option.
Damn strong at $4M is crazy when we could have gruden for $6m. U gotta pay if u want to play.
And im not sure hart wants to hunt with the big.dogs. seems he would rather stay on the porch.
100% Gruden!

With all these "so and so coach has denied interest in Tennessee" or "been offered the job but is still considering", my theory is that Hart is interviewing all these coaches hoping to find his back up plan just in case Gruden really does fall through. In the process of explaining the situation (that Gruden is likely to be the coach should everything go according to plan and these coaches are being penned as plan B), most are either turned off by that and pull their names out or deny interest so as to keep their job if Gruden is hired. I find it hard to think that Hart and his new budget are having this hard of a time finding a coach, especially since it seems like we are clearly the best college football job available.

I haven't been watching the broadcast. But one would assume for such a big ESPN event, that Gruden might be there, since he works for them.

I heard someone say earlier he was, but nothing more than a poster.

But I would not be surprised if he was there. It would match the story up perfectly.[/QUOTE]

And that's the weirdest/scariest part. I've kept up with this from the get-go, applying my own fair share amounts of cynicism and doubt into the leaks there were fed into these forums, yet....things have come about, at this point, so close to aligning with the consensus to how this would play out (over a week ago) that it's almost too much to be incidental. Either those folks really were on to something, or they're far better at predicting cumulative, random series of events than any think-tank I've ever seen before.

So this is my first post, but I've been lurking since Gruden VIII. I've gotta say, this thread has been the single most entertaining place to be for weeks now. Especially for any Vol fan. I also gotta say, the OG's have practically gave us the script of how this thing plays out. And I'm thinking they are the right ones to listen to. Too much lines up in favor of JG. Make it through tomorrow...if possible. Gruden 100%!!

Welcome and please make yourself at home!:salute:

Maybe I am a simpleton, but if Hart truly is killing this search and killed Gruden deal(which I do no know, hence the 'if') then isnt it cheaper to fire Hart now and go after Gruden full steam? Seems cheaper than making a quick and mediocre hire for 3-4 mil $ then buying the coach out in 3-4 years. I cant believe that the $$people at UT would let Hart kill the deal and hire a coach they are not fully on board with.

I, however, think that too many things line up like the OG's said and is being set up to look like Hart made a final run at Gruden. This is just waht I think, but if not and Hart has killed it and is botching this hire, what logical reason is there to not eliminate the issue?

At this point I see gruden's image in the coffee grinds in the morning, i can't quite trust myself...

Welcome to the board...

Only problem to that in my mind, is that the only hold Up I can think of really that would require this disinfo campaign (if it is that), would be some ESPN contract snag. I don't think enough of Tampa Bay thing could possibly matter one thing or another... So if our little Alex Jones Vol theory is correct.....it seems like it'd have to be 23rd for it to be him.

I see your point, I just gotta feeling. :crossfingers:

This was my thought....Dave Hart told Gruden "I'm giving you until the Hall of Fame induction. I'm going to have my interviews conducted, and I'm going to have an offer waiting for someone. You have until then to decide, but I'm not going to wait around for you when there are other candidates on board."

So my thinking is, Gruden and Hart/boosters have had meetings, they got the contract as they wanted it, and tonight was the night that things were finalized. Gruden had to make a decision.

Could explain his lack of enthusiasm last night on MNF.

Could explain the sudden "Holy crap what is going on?" misdirection.

Hopefully, if this is true, Gruden made the right choice.
