I know, that's been my question too. Why the secrecy? I get it when the coaches don't want it to get out that they are negotiating because of recruiting, but this makes no sense to me either.

I hope we are not left with Skip Holtz as a choice. (He's a famous coach's son, it worked so well with Dooley)

The only explanations are his contract with MNF...he either is locked in or doesn't want to walk from it during the season. Or, he's asking for so much...be it money, control or whatever...and it's become a situation as to who can outwait who.

Care to elaborate?

Just a theory.

UT is about to break the bank when it comes to coaching salaries. Imagine the fallout had UT just struck a deal with Gruden and it was announced that the total package is 10-12 million per year and blows away what anybody has done before. The press would have killed UT.

However, if everybody has turned down UT, and it appears that UT is out of options...it doesn't look so bad that UT "had" to do this because it had nowhere else to go.

The press will still pile on, but it could take away some of the sting.

Whether UT hires Strong, Gruden or someone else, I absolutely disagree with the proposition that the Vols need to hire someone ASAP just because other teams are making hires. I'd rather take an interim through signing day and get the right head coach than to make some kneejerk Dooleyesque hire out of desparation. Patience is a virtue and more Vol fans need to learn how to exercise it.

Tastes great!

addressing the timing thing. I've said all along that I believe other schools would be crying to the NCAA about a recruiting advantage. They could say having his face in every recruits living room , with them hearing about and knowing he is coming to TN would be unfair. Hope we have to wait till the last broadcast on that glorious night in Dec.

I'm hoping last night was truly "the darkest before the dawn" moment. If we can just make it through today and tomorrow without a coach, my hopes are going to go up two fold

Absolutely.... The right hire is what matters !

If we offered Strong the job, I can't believe Gruden is really in play anymore, yet I'm on the Grud Train till it hits the end of the tracks.

I just don't really think it is anyone that Hubbs is talking about, for the last several days. Way too much misdirection. Being played like a fine tuned instrument. I am still all in.

BTW, does anyone really think that the way this search has been 'reported' is a professional way to go about it? We are talking about MILLIONS of dollars. The Donors have money to donate for a reason, they know how to run a successful business. Come on man, Seriously?

I agree. This is what I can't wrap my head around. If we have grude and this is a smokescreen, then why are we offering other coaches the job? Any ideas anyone?

Come on grude!
