Official Jon Gruden Thread XV

I just want to say that over the past week, we've gone from "not releasing any info regarding the coaching search" to a new coach being interviewed every hour. I'm thoroughly confused and am more clueless than Sunseri with a 3rd down stop. I want it to be Gruden, but I'm even more convinced that the media is struggling as much as we are with who it could be. Hart is brilliant or an idiot. We shall see.

I realky feel like gundy is just using us for a raise and mayne some power with things he wanta.

Didn't he just sign an extension earlier this year and makes almost $4mil/yr? How much more of a raise does he think he's worth? He just went 7-5. I think he's actually interested in leaving. And if he actually is looking for a raise, I'd let him walk if I were OK St and go buy a better coach for $4mil/yr. JMO

"Hart is brilliant or an idiot. ". Post of the year IMO

It does seem like UT is employing the tactic: go big or go home. I just hope we succeed no matter who we get bc truly anyone will be better than sunseri on def.

Just remember folks, an interview does not equal a job offer, especially first interviews which are typically used by both sides to simply gauge interest. Hart may interview 10 candidates before this is all said and done which will drive us all nuts, but will give him cover to further delay announcing his choice. The longer it goes, the more evident it becomes that either:

a.) it's Gruden; or
b.) Hart is a blithering idiot

There can be no other explanation.

“@TheDannyParker: Multiple sources with FOX Sports NEXT re-iterate to Tennessee Volunteers Football, Basketball, and Recruiting Front Page that Louisville coach Charlie Strong has not spoken with Tennessee.”

****

That has its own thread.

Good post. I agree totally that hart will be judged with this hire and it will be 2 and 3 years down the road. Most will judge him with the wow factor at the presser and that means nothing to me. Just win!!! That's all that matters and we have some names that I believe will do just that!

We want the same thing, for the Vols to win. It will be hard for me to get excited for Charlie Strong. If he's the guy he'll have to prove it on the field for me whereas a more proven guy would allow me to buy in right off the bat. Not saying that's right but I think that's reality for a lot of fans. Ou know the minute he loses a game he shouldn't people are gonna say "that's what you get when you hire an up and comer ". A more established coach would garner a little more latitude. Not that that's right either, just reality.

Since some have said that Dooley was supposed to coach thru the bowl game, which would keep the Gruden deal the schedule, wonder if Dooley lost on purpose just to derail UT?

Of course, that would be hard to prove in a court of law that he coached to lose, since who would know how he coached to win?

Well if thats how it was supposed to go down and the whole deal got derailed bc of dooley going early, then there is no way they let gru go bc it was early. Talk all you want about hart but hart is just the messenger. Without the money hart might as well be a fart in the wind. They have the final say in this deal. Let it happen be patient and pay attention

I don't know if this has been said or not, so I'll throw it out there for all of you to analyze. IF Gruden is indeed the man, then the talks of Charlie Strong wanting to coach the bowl game / saying he has not talked to anyone could be a convenient way to stretch this longer than people anticipate at the moment. All that would have to be done is for Hart to tell the media that Charlie Strong has agreed to accept the job after Louisville's BCS game, and the foundation has already been set for that to be believable.

It's at least an interesting theory.

Hey Andy Reid will be avail.... Sure you'd need a case of redbull to stay awake through his Sunday show, but he's a good coach.

Hopefully it's both.
