Well boys and girls, it was fun. Can't say I didn't believe the hype.... Was genuinely the most fun I've had on a message board. Thanks for the memories. Just hope this hire ends up better than it looks. GO VOLS!!!!!

To the OG's, like you I am truly sorry it ended this way. I know that many, many people in positions to know thought it was done with JG, or very close to being done. But apparently it was not to be. And props to Boro, OV and however many of the rest of you showed up this morning too. Those of you taking shots at them are welcome to do so, but the truth is you don't have any idea what you're talking about if you think this was all some internet scam job or something.

I am stunned. Not that Gruden isn't coming, because while I knew that was in play, knowing his history and all I wasn't going to believe it was truly done until he appeared at a presser. I am stunned for other reasons. I am stunned because Dave Hart and his colleagues talked a good game about realizing how important the FB program is to the school as a whole, but apparently still couldn't figure out that this hire, after all the fan base has been through the last 5 years, more than any previous hire in UT history needed to unite and re-energize a demoralized fan base, not just produce a capable coach. Jones could be the next Saban and they still failed miserably on that point, and Jones will step into a chaotic situation without broad fan support and with immense pressure. That is not a recipe for success. Attendance next year will be no better than the last half of this year, and if he doesn't win from day one, his tenure will be short, and we'll be paying another big buyout no doubt (I'm assuming Hart followed the Hamilton method of giving an up and coming coach a buyout more suited for a big name).

I am also stunned because I now believe that Hart was telling the truth when he said after Dooley was fired that he hadn't done anything toward finding a successor, and that is completely insane given how the season played out. Hart should be fired for that reason alone.

And finally, I am stunned because we now know that all the talk about him conducting things close to the vest and no one knowing what he was doing was also false. In fact, his department leaked like a sieve, either because he authorized it or he couldn't control the flow of information. Because the leaks the last couple of days about Jones were true, it's fair to assume the leaks about Strong and Gundy etc. were also true. So he let info stream out about who we were after and how they turned us down and assisted the media in dragging UT through the mud (again) for everyone to see while we begged and pleaded for someone to take the job.

So to Dave Hart, you should be fired, today, and it has nothing to do with whether Butch Jones is a good football coach.

To Jon Gruden, F you. Not because you didn't come here to coach, but because you allowed your agent to act like only a fool would think you would even deign to think about it, when you know that isn't true. How hard would it have been to put together a couple of paragraphs expressing your purported love for Tennessee but respectfully declining to be considered?

I will always love UT, but our flagship University needs a total housecleaning until those running the show demonstrate that they actually believe the words in their own press releases.

I am still trying to wrap my mind out of all this. I wanted JG even though it wa a long shot. But I just can't accept that this hire was the best we could do.

You don't understand how coaches view the UT position with recruiting disadvantages against the main competition, as well as going against the best coaches, as well as trying to win quickly, before you commit possible career suicide.
That's why. We had to find someone that wasn't scared.

Haven't the Fans suffered enough? Is Butch Jones the best Tennessee Football can do? After the last 6-7 years, if the University doesn't care about the Football Program, I don't see why I should either......enough is enough....we have to draw the line somewhere

I would like to thank the OG's for sharing information they brought here. As I said the other day, this is not their fault. We all had the choice to believe or not..called free will. This was / is a power struggle...between Hart and boosters. Hart doesn't care about UT and he will answer for that. Playing the blame game at the OG's will not change the state of where UT is at this time. If that helps little people feel better about themselves, I know they(OG) can handle what comes at them. A lot more at play here that we will never know details about. Cheek and Hart are the problem and this is what should be focused on not I told you so.

Your phychology skills are weak. This is not third grade. You won't get the source, simply because I care more for him than I do you.

There are 3 or 4 people here that know who it is, and that is only because I know and respect them. You don't qualify for either.

If you think I am some sort of attention whore please look at how long I've been posting here, and how few posts I have.....mostly in this thread. I had some info that lined up with others, and I shared it....only if it lined up with other sources I trusted.

Feel free to review all of my posts regarding Gruden. I never once claimed that he was coming to UT. Did I say it would be nice? Absolutely. I always knew it was a long shot at best.

With that said, I am still shocked at how we have sunk to the level we now find ourselves. We were shot down by coaches most SEC teams would have laughed at and we land a guy that was only be considered by Colorado and Purdue.

There is no reason to rationally think that UT will be competitive for the next 8-10 years. As Bill King pointed out the other day, while we have been on the coaching carousel the last several years, Bama, Florida, Georgia. et al. have completely dried up our recruiting abilities with big time coaches.

For those that think we have a shot at relevency in the near future, Bill King said it best, "Alabama, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Texas A&M. Whose spot do you think Tennessee can replace?"
