Official Nashville Predators Thread

I'm a new Preds fan/hockey fan. What's up with the catfish???

It's thrown if someone gets a hat trick (3 goals in a game).

It's Nashville's equivalent to the Red Wings' tradition of an octopus (or several) being thrown when such happens. It actually might have come about here because the Predators and Red Wings were in the same division - the older iterations of the Central Division - for this franchise's first 15 years (1998-2013).

That reason / regular interaction might very well have served as influence to the fans of this city developing a version of such (or their own answer to that tradition).

No it's not. It's thrown on the ice prior to a big game usually after the national anthem. Nothing to do with a hat trick.

Its basically mocking Detroit throwing an octopus

Its not mocking at all.................Nashville adopted it from Detroit and not as a mocking. Perhaps when they initially did it in 03 in the playoffs against Detroit they did, but since they use it the same way Detroit does.

I've been to a few games over the years and am by no means an expert on Pred's history but I think the catfish evolved from the fact that many of the initial fans were Michigan transplants who came to the area with GM/Saturn and they adapted their octopus tradition to a southern town. For many years, the Red Wings could absolutely claim home ice when they played at the GEC/stone.

I'm here for the bandwagon. I actually went to a Preds game in '98 or '99 so I should get a pass.

I have a lot of friends and family who have suddenly become hard core hockey fans. lol

When the tickets go on sale tomorrow for season ticket holders, are those accessed by a password through Ticketmaster?

^ Who do we want in the finals? Pens are more talented but seem to be more beat up. Curious to hear what you guys think.

I think both will very tough to beat, however I'd personally pick Ottawa. I don't want to see the Pens in the Finals for a 2nd year in a row and they are more talented

Gimme the Pens. I want to beat Sid the Baby, although seeing him lose in the CF would be satisfying too

I think Ottawa would be an easier opponent

Rinne has a .942 save percentage this postseason, the best of any goalie in the past five postseasons who has played a minimum of 15 games.
