What makes you guys think Butch would hire someone to take over the offense that isn't just an extension of Butch himself? I think it's fairly obvious that he hired Debord to fulfill that role- to run Butch's offense how he wants it run.

Would the pressure be strong enough to force him to hire a guy that might change up the offense in ways that Butch may not be comfortable with(but, apparently, needs to happen)?

As long as we have an AD and other higher ups in the University that don't care about athletics, the change will never be forced.

However, with the right pressure (to include what the media is doing) the change could happen. (stress the could)

I think Hart cares, above that I have serious doubts.

I often think the media and fan pressure is overstated(in its potential to cause significant change to a program), but you never know, VN has a ton of members..

I'm talking pressure from fans (lost ticket sales), boosters (needs no explanation) and the media which is already asking "WTF bro?" over last Saturday and connecting it with the Oklahoma loss and asking a double "WTF bro?" at significant media outlets.

We should be 4-0 right now. And if the fans, boosters and media see it, there is no reason the AD and others shouldn't.

Changing things up wouldn't help. The guy is stubborn as a mule.

The sad truth is that the supporting coaching staff is more than capable of winning both games comfortably. The problem is at the top. Changing the pieces out below him wouldn't change things in a positive manner.

It should set alarm bells off when the opposing fan base, opposing coach, your fan base, national media, and homer media all see and say the same thing while the guy in charge seems completely oblivious to it.

The worst thing about the losses, from my prospective, wasn't that we lost both games with more talent (bad), or even the way we lost (even worse), it was Butch's abdication of responsibility and lack of self-critical evaluation. That spells impending doom on something that is very correctable.

I am done with Jones. A lot of people are blaming his Assistant Coaches, that is BS. The AC coaches the style and tempi the HC wants them to. We don't need a AC or 2 to be fall guys to buy Butch another year. He is a great recruiter but does not have the balls to be a field coach. I will cheer for the Vols but I now have zero respect for Jones. If I were in charge he would have been handed his walking papers Saturday night. A man can't do it job is not needed.

Even I felt bad for your players, and I've never felt anything but joy from the suffering of Tennessee sports(just being honest, I know you guys feel the same way about us :) ). Those kids played their hearts out. Dobbs may be limited as a passer but he gave it everything he had, imo. He ran as hard as Hurd out there, we couldn't tackle him for ****. I can't imagine how devastating that ending had to be for them.

I was literally in disbelief when you guys just needed one or two first downs to end the game, and you ran up the middle 3 times(the last one with Dobbs) for a three and out. That's the type of play calling you see when you're up by three touchdowns with three minutes left, not a one score game. I still didn't think we could pull it off in the heat of the moment, but I was bewildered that you didn't try to win the game then and there.

Hart is a highly arrogant, yet incompetent, dolt. He's an embarrassment that should have been shown the door after the Tyndall debacle. He must be removed this year; the sooner the better.

Solid post, Gramps. I think it's more than having the balls to coach; I don't think he has the intelligence to coach. He just doesn't seem very bright to me; very simple stuff escapes him. He works hard and recruits very well, but he can't coach at all. His lying and deflection is finally getting called out, but I don't think he changes; might not have the ability.

Thanks gcb.

Intelligence would have been a better word to use. In order for Butch to be successful at TN may be him being the CEO of the staff, have faith in his OC and DC, let them coach and recruit hard and be the voice of the program.
That was the only way Fulmer was successful. He allow Cut and Chief do their thing.

I've had a lot of time to process the game from Saturday and go through it rationally. And yet I still keep coming back to the same thoughts I had immediately after the game.

Jones, while building the base for a great football team, is utterly failing in execution. Don't get me wrong, I don't think he is intentionally tanking the season, but even if we managed to go 8-4 after some miracle, I still don't think he's the coach to lead us to that next step. I honestly don't know where the program is headed, but my gut tells me it's not where we should be.

Time will tell and all, but I'm not getting good vibes from the four games so far. And my rational side says there is no chance the UT leadership wants to or will make a change.

I'm not getting good vibes either, I see a drastic improvement in talent but not on field performance. I'd love to see something that indicated we played two way more talented or experienced teams to the wire but just came up short but I don't believe that is the case. I think we had two equally (at best) talented teams beat and coaching blew the games.

Outside of 8 loses this year CBJ gets his fourth season but it's looking like he will not deserve a 5th.

Two coaches in their 3rd year. Both needing to prove their worth. CBJ has seriously out recruited CBB. Butch better handle his business.

I forgot CBB was in year 3, this will be a good measuring stick for CBJ. We have out recruited AR by a mile, this one will be all coaching.
